The leather pants sound awesome, BB.

If you have a Madewell store near you, I think they have some good fitting jeans and the staff is helpful

I looked at the Nicole Miller website too because I like having an excuse to look at gowns since my D is a singer.

It reminded me how much I hate the ankle bootie shoes with dresses. I think the shoes on the models on the Nicole Miller site ruin every dress on there. The shoes are not flattering to anyone in my opinion. Who likes that look?

I’m OK with ankle booties with dresses with one caveat: the leggings/tights color has to match the color of the bootie. The bare leg/bootie look on the website… is not great at all.

Yes, I agree with that caveat.

Is premium denim really all that? Do they really make one look THAT much better? Or do they hold up longer for twice or three times the price?

I’ve never purchased expensive jeans, and am in the market for dark straight leg or stovepipe jeans which I figure will fit somewhat like skinnies on my huge thighs and muscular calves. I’m a long-waisted petite with a small waist, and have no clue what brands might be short enough for me.

I’m not familiar with Nicole Miller. The jewelry doesn’t call out to me but this one dress is about the right price and kind of nice, I think:

[Nicole Miller Official Store - HEATHER JERSEY V-NECK DRESS](http://www.nicolemiller.com/HEATHER_JERSEY_VNECK_DRESS/pd/c/188/np/188/p/2976.html)

I look at it this way - I wear jeans most days (I have a casual-dress office) so if I find a really flattering, great pair of jeans, it’s worth the cost to me. I’d almost rather go cheaper when it comes to pants that I’m NOT wearing on an everyday basis.

These aren’t in the expensive category, but I do really well with JAG brand denim. Very flattering (at least to me). NYDJ is good, too, as long as you’re careful not to look too “mom jeans.” I have had other designer jean brands in the past, like True Religion. The big watchout is ensuring the waist isn’t too low, as I am all-torso-no-leg in terms of my build.

Jeans don’t usually hit at the waist anymore- I am short waisted & I like Jcrew matchstick ( not toothpick) jeans. They come in lengths- but it also seems like they are tad long.
Have you tried Levi 501s? They can be ordered by waist & length. ( more casual than other brands mentioned)

I looked at the David Kahn jeans but the petite is 31" an inch or so longer than I need.

I agree with Bunsen, finding jeans is an expedition all of it’s own.

“Or do they hold up longer for twice or three times the price?”

The quality of the denim makes a huge difference. My David Kahn jeans (from Nordstrom Rack) hold their shape really well and do not need to be thrown in the washer after just one wear for “re-shaping”.

sewhappy - nice find. I like the dress (in fact, there are several that I liked, but they were way more $$). I think it is the best option for the money. I looked at the shoes and accessories and could not find a single thing that made me excited - cheap looking, expensive stuff. I guess “accessories” is not Nicole Miller’s forte.

CC - I am finally able to fit in ‘real’ jeans after having both lost some weight and toned things up with running. I’ a size 12, have a long torso, muscular calves, carry most of my weight in my lower body (definitely pear shaped) and short legs.

I ended up with Paige premium denim & am very happy. They wash beautifully, aren’t too low waisted, and, when hemmed (at Nordy’s), are a perfect length. The ones I chose are a narrow bootcut and did not end up looking odd when hemmed. Narrow enough that they could fit inside boots if I could find boots to fit my calves :)

the difference between these jeans and others I’ve worn are like night and day.

My boss let on this morning that the upcoming Macy’s friends and family sale has a flat 25% off, and even the premium denim in the Impulse dept is included.

I like the Christopher Blue (brand) jeans. I don’t know if they’re considered premium or not. I usually find them at Neiman Marcus or Nordstrom. I’ve found that they fit me well. I also like them because the have styles that don’t have any logos/swirls on the back pocket. I don’t feel the need to draw attention to my backside! I know the style I like, and I can often find them online for a little less than at the store.

I have heard that Chico’s jeans are really comfy. They have some stretch in them. The sizes at Chico’s always confuse me and I’m not a fan of the big prints that they are so fond of so I rarely go in there. My understanding is that their 1/1.5 correlates with an 8/10.

I think with jeans it is all about fit and less about what brand they are.
My Citizen’s jeans are a mid rise. It is perfect for my body type. I have one pair that I bought on sale. I would buy another if I found them at the right price.
I used to love Lucky jeans. The last few years I feel like the quality of the denim has gone down.
I think Nordstrom Rack is one of the best places to try a variety of price points of jeans and also a variety of brands. Get a cart and load it up till it is overflowning with denim. Take each brand in a couple of different sizes and different styles. At the Rack you can find the ultra premium denim brands such as Paige,Citizens, Joe’s, True Religion etc. Also you will find Calvin Klein, NYDJ, Kut, Christopher Blue, David Kahn, Lucky and more. They also have the junior brands that are less expensive. Be prepared to try on a ton and only like a few. If you find one you like buy it because they probably won’t have the exact pant next time.
I have also seen some of these brands at Ross or TJ Maxx but it is hit or miss. At Nordstrom Rack you will have plenty of styles and brands to try.

I tend to prefer higher end jeans. I just don’t seem to like the inexpensive ones as much, although I got some bright colored jeans this summer at Penney’s that are awesome.
I don’t necessarily have to spend $200 regularly, but I like Madewell, Rock n Republic, Lucky and others in the $100 range. I love jeans- can’t wear them everyday to work (wish I could), but if I’m not at work, I’m in jeans.

To the poster who wanted skinny jeans to tuck into boots:

I recently bought these jeans from Coldwater Creek:

[Coldwater Creek](http://www.coldwatercreek.com/product-detail/57957/64444/natural-slim-leg-knit-jeans.aspx?colorid=689&refLink=misses-pants.aspx)

They are called “knit” jeans, but they just have a lot of stretch in them, still a denim fabric. They are so comfortable, quite skinny in the legs, and very easy to tuck into knee-high boots. I got the dark denim and the black. The dark denim fit closer than the black. They are having a sale right now: buy one item, get a second one for 50% off. Both of these are more comfortable than my NYDJ jeans, which I also like a lot. The Coldwater Creek jeans are less expensive than the NYDJ.

I needed a dress for a couple of holiday events and found this on a ridiculous sale at Talbot’s. The sale price was cut another 50 percent, paid 32 dollars for this. Unfortunately, only the black was available in my size or I would have also got the red.

What a classic!

^ lol, it seems to have wandered over to DD’s closet.

I want to get the Ferragamo shoe in black or maybe taupe to wear with it but Nordstrom and Zappo’s have very little in stock in my size. Isn’t that how it works? $30 for the dress, $300 for the shoes?

DD says I should get the little ankle boots but I think I’d look like a fool.

sewhappy, that always seems to be the case for me. My most recent fancy outfit comprised a $35 dress obtained on super sale at NR and a $300-ish pair of Jimmy Choo shoes (also a sale bargain ). Have you tried calling the nearest Ferragamo store? Bluefly and Bloomies also carry Ferragamo shoes.

Sewhappy, sorry to come to the party a bit late, but which Farragamo shoes are you looking for?
