did a major day of shopping yesterday. White jeans on over 50?

My sister’s new favorite color is white, including white jeans. She’s >50 and a fashionista, so if you have the figure, why not?

Found my graduation dress! It appears shorter on the model than it is on me, it reaches the top of my knees. The yellow is not as bright as it appears online, it’s a beautiful, happy yellow.

Now, I need shoes!!! Suggestions are welcome/appreciated. Can’t do really high heels,(over 2 3/4")

Can someone kindly talk me out of buying these ? They are totally incompatible with my life style. The second comment sold me on them. I wonder if companies hired professionals to write their feedback.

Always, for some reason green calls me for that dress. Like this? Or maybe the stacked heel isn’t quite formal enough…

And as for the Fluevogs, munchkin, can’t help you. That brand has legions of rabid fans. I tried on a few pair in SF, but they hurt my feet, so I’m safe:).

Darling dress Alwaysinterested, like a daffodil, just right for a happy graduation day.

Munchkin, I’m not able to access your link – so curious to see the shoes.

Alumother, what gorgeous shoes. Love that first sandal, especially. It’s got that squarish, solid vibe of the season.

^ sewhappy: how about this one ?

Alumother : I am not rabid about it, but I admit I like shoes that are a bit “out there”. The two pairs I already own are very comfortable thankfully … I manage to talk myself out of the above pair but bought a couple of boots. I did a big organization of my shoes last November and lo and behold, somehow I can’t find any boots for winter, except for one pair. So I need to replenish my boot wardrobe. That is my excuse and I am sticking to it.

I am also eyeing this one, it’s against my moral principles to buy anything full price, so I am going to wait, I find the print on leather unique and lovely

Munchkin - I love so many of the shoes on that website and I love the website. I could spend a fortune on there.

I’m also interested in the opinion of the resident fashionistas here–The question was asked recently:

Do you agree that calf hair shoes are for fall/winter as opposed to spring/summer?

Thanks, Munchkin – cool shoes! Sort of funky baked potato shoes. I like the purses, too.

I see zebra as more summery somehow than calf hair . . .

This just came in the mail, had forgotten I ordered it and it’s making me smile a lot:

I think of all shoes with a nap to the leather (i.e. including suede) as less warm-weather than cool.

Has anyone ordered from Boden. I found a couple of things I liked and wondered about this company. Any ideas how things fit?

I think Ek4 is our resident Boden advisor. Paging EK4!

I am not a Boden expert, but I have bought two or three things, liked some, and returned some. I found the returns process to be easy and my credit card was credited right away. Someone else on CC complained about long delays on returns.

Alum - but pink suede would have been cute with that gray dress on your blog!!

Sorry to burst the Boden bubble but…

[Online critics target Boden - Telegraph](<a href=“Online critics target Boden”>Online critics target Boden)

I would apply the same standards to white jeans as to any pair of pants - ripped, words printed across, too much embellishment are examples of (to me) inappropriate. Tailored and well fitting white jeans can be appropriate at any age. They are a staple in my summer wardrobe (though white can be worn all year now). I like them because they can be dressed up or down.

For a white dress at graduation a neutral, nude or black sandal (popular with white dresses these days), perhaps a platform, would look very nice. Google white dresses on any of the upscale department stores websites - you’ll see lots of examples. A pop of a color like turquoise could also work beautifully.

A nude platform sandal, espadrille or wedge could also work very nicely with the yellow dress.

For the past couple of years I have seen suede shown in the spring and summer as more of an all year round fabric - I think it depends, some suede works better in the warm weather than others.

I think I’m the one who said Boden returns were a hassle. It took close to a month to get my credit card refund. Also I’ve found that their clothes run small. If you are between sizes, I’d go for the larger one. That said, you should read the customer reviews as they often comment on fit.

Nice post, roshke. Agree with it all.

Re: Boden . . . we made our first order recently. Got this dress for my DD’s graduation in white and it fits great and she loves it.Has a side zipper and nice subtle embellishments along the hem. We ordered a size down and it fits very well. She wanted something longer. Hits her just above the knee. She says the mini is “so over” . . . I dunno. The workmanship on the Boden stuff we ordered seems quite good for the price. I would go to gap or J Crew sales or Target for most of my wardrobe but it’s a nice source for something special.

(Would just love it if one of you could find a great turquoise/white low heeled flat!)
