Dressing Young (Part 1)

I have some purple NYMJs which I think are close not totally skinny, but pretty tight. I don’t really think I belong in super skinny with my thighs. The NYMJ’s I’m wearing today are surprisingly loose. I think they must be the first pair I got, when I’d just started losing weight.

I have the Coldwater Creek knit skinny jeans and I like them a lot. I just bought a chocolate brown pair and matching jean jacket for fall.

Smiling at your post, mathmom. NYMJ…I think you mean NYDJ. (Not Your Daughter’s Jeans)
Somehow the “mom jeans” thing got mixed in there!

I am indulging in the colored jean trend. I bought a pair of mustard jeans in the summer and I got a lot of compliments from young women. I have purchased a pair of maroon and i am going to add a forest green. I am buying them from the Limited so they are inexpensive and I won’t care when this look becomes dated.

Hugcheck, I don’t do bling so maybe I really can pull off the faux fur coat. Would probably wear it with boyfriend jeans, dansko clogs and a tee shirt. To Costco or Home Depot. Yeah.

Regarding those punchy color skinny pants out this season – I don’t really get 'em. I did get a pair of slim leg kakis from gap last spring in an electric blue that I was briefly enamored with but after awhile they felt too statement-y. If the high-color skinnies are almost a legging with a longish tunic top and the right shoe, then that could be good, though.

I did get a pair of orangey matchstick cords from the J. Crew outlet. The difficult thing with colored pants is what to wear on top besides white or black. And in my case, I can’t wear a black top because I’d look like I was heading to a Halloween parade!

I have a soft brown sweater that I think will go, with a scarf to tie them together.

SHoes are another conundrum for me on the skinnier jeans/cords. I do see ballet flats with them, and that’s okay for this time of year. But what about when it gets really cold? Boots may work, but are there any shoes that work with the skinny pants?

surfcity - I agree about the shoe dilemma with skinny jeans. In the summer it was easy because I just wore sandals. Now I have switched to flats and I might use a short boot as it gets cooler with a turtleneck or cowl neck sweater and belt. I am between two sizes at the Limited and I go with the larger size so my skinnies aren’t quite so skinny. As I said - these are not investment pieces, but on days when I don’t feel like getting really dressed up for work, I can get away with wearing these!

NJres, if you’re wearing what the teens in Italy are wearing, I’d say you rock:).

surfcity and wnp – I’m no expert on skinny jeans but I feel pretty good wearing these Aerosole loafers with mine. I have them in the yellow and the black. They are very comfortable. Wear them without socks.

I like those loafers - less clunky than my favorite Merrells. You could also go the Converse route. :)

Too funny about NYDJ jeans. Yep, I had Mommy jeans in my head.

Those flats look comfy!

I need shoes that have a wide toe box and a narrow heel (no shoes ever have a heel that is narrow enough for me). I have determined that my feet look like swimming flippers. Kind of a triangular shape. I think that is why I LOVE sandals.

Funny thing about these aerosole loafers – I bought them at a huge sale about two years ago. Then found them too tight to wear. Then tried them this summer and they fit just fine, extremely comfortable. I guess my foot changed or the leather relaxed.

I also like the look of leggings or skinny pants with short boots and a tunic/dress.

I bought these Ecco Hanna short boots at Macy’s for super duper clearance in the Spring ($19.99!) and I’ve been wondering if they’d look good with leggings/tunic or skinny jeans/jeggings. Advice?

I think those boots would be great!

Fantastic buy on the boots, RobD!

Yay me  I have a great OneWorld tunic that I’ve been considering wearing with either denim jeggings or black leggings and those boots. But since my office wardrobe is black dress pants and a rotating variety of shirts/sweaters, and my home wardrobe tends to be jeans and a rotating variety of shirts/sweaters, I didn’t know if that look with the boots would work.

Now you’ve all got me considering a pair of skinny jeans/cords…

I see there’s been sock talk. The most comfortable socks are the ones you knit yourself. :)

Of course the handwashing them part, yeah, part of the bargain…

wnp - the Beautifeel line I keep espousing is PERFECT for narrow heel, wide ball. That’s my foot shape too.

sewhappy, I have a similar pair of flats from the AnnKlein iFlex line. Love them! Somehow the ballet style always looks more natural with the skinny pants to me, but I think the flats will work into winter. I do see people wearing heels with skinny pants, but that is not for me for everyday.

I still can’t decide if I can pull off the short boots with skinnies. I am so used to wearing them with boot cut jeans so it looks like I am wearing full length boots :D

surfcity, I love the Anne Klein iFlex shoes. I have 3 pairs in different styles and find them really, really comfortable and fairly stylish.

In other shoe/boots notes. . .I have been salivating over a couple of pair of Frye boots at Nordstroms. I was shopping with my daughter and she picked two pair to try on, these and a pair very similar which were only $99! Needless to say, she is not getting the $$$ boots, esp when her feet are not done growing.

Me however, I can’t stop thinking how cute these would be with skinny jeans tucked in :)
