Dressing Young (Part 1)

So jealous. I have to wear orthotic shoes practically.
I am dreading winter and having to change out of my Chacos & five fingers.
However I think I need a new pair of these. So comfortable i could sleep in them.

emerald, I love those cowboy boots. I think they are way cool. And not to cutesy. They look like the real deal.

I have a Roaring 20s party coming up in two weeks. (Last year’s zebra themed location.) Any idea where to get/how to make one of those headbandy thingies? I’ve got a dropwaist dress that will do. It’s dark brown with gold thread embroidery. Also need to think about stockings and footwear…

D has a few head bands that you could wear on you for the Roaring 20’s. Try Forever 21 or Macy’s, maybe one of the girls/teen accessory stores. If they are not strectchy enough, just cut the fabric and add a piece of elastic (which you would then wear under your hair).

Sewhappy - I like that tunic top! My clothing is decidedly more tailored and I usually don’t wear something like that, but I think it is such a great basic piece that can be changed depending on jewelry. Hope you had a fun night - what was the old Teva slogan, “Free your feet and you mind will follow?” Those Danskos might mean more fun!

As for tweed, I LOVE tweed and I love houndstooth. Such a traditional girl.

I am definitely rediscovering my love of boots. I love the look with slim jeans and with a long sweater top and leggings.

While at first I didn’t like the look of a tougher style boot with a dress, (just brought back to many images of the Panhandle in San Francisco during the summer of love)…I’ve changed my mind…I do like the current version…on the College set. I’ve been debating whether or not to try a more mature approach to that particular look(I missed those panhandle days, spent them in a plaid uniform). Not the very flimsy and short summer dresses, but something that covers more on the top and goes at least to right above the knee…or slightly below. Just not sure if this is age appropriate…

I’ve enjoyed reading the posts on this thread by the true fashion mavens. I’ve never been a high fashion kind of gal…even when working in The Big City. Now that H and I work out of the house and live in a somewhat rural area, it’s really all about comfort and durability- and yes, stain resistance. The boot/dress combo would fit the criteria…would love to hear your ideas.

When I was waiting for an MRI, the most fashionable lady was in the waiting room with her mother.
She was wearing what looked like nappa leather black flat boots almost over the knee, a leopardy print knit jacket and a charcoal knit skirt that was above the knee. She was middle eastern looking and very striking.
I don’t usually give strangers compliments, but I lusted after those boots so bad, I had to tell her how good she looked!
Oh she also was probably my age, about 55, but she looked like a movie star.

Like that tunic very much, bought a purple boucle tweed skirt from J. Crew. We’re trend-meisters all on our own here!

Yeah, I was on the fence on the J Jill tunic but now think it will get a lot of mileage over the holidays. It’s a pretty ivory color and the tone on tone embroidery is nice. It wrinkles though. And a guy at the party spilt his wine on my sleeve. White wine so okay.

I wish I could wear a boucle pencil skirt. I’m too short, I think.

These Boden shoes have me smitten. Pricey for me, tho. And maybe too high of a heel. I bet someone like Clark’s will come out with something similar cheaper and maybe a little lower heel. (I like them in the gray.)

Alumother, would you post a link to the skirt, please? Sounds interesting.

Hit Old Navy with one of my Best Dressing Young friends- I mainly picked up some t shirts but my friend had me try on a paint of the Rock star super skinny colored jeans. I went up quite a few sizes and they have lots of stretch in them. Not tight at all and super comfortable. On sale for just 19 dollars. Granted I bought the charcoal so I didn’t go wild!

Ok gang, I need your help. I’m looking for a winter coat: good wool, below-knee length (but not a maxi), to wear in the fall/winter when I go into the city of an evening. I tend to keep clothes for a long time, so nothing trendy. I like elegant and classic, preferably in charcoal grey. (I went to Nordstrom’s and Neiman Marcus today, and saw some lovely camel coats, but that color looks terrible on me.) My budget is mid-high three figures. What can you find me?

Would this coat work for you, Booklady?

[Talbots - Plush Wool-Blend Coat With Thinsulate ™ Lining | Outerwear | Apparel](<a href=“Women's Clothing & Apparel | Talbots”>Women's Clothing & Apparel | Talbots)

That is definitely the right idea, and I actually tried that coat on the other day, as we have a Talbots nearby. It just didn’t have that certain je ne sais quoi. :)

masslou, it looks like this.

Booklady - Would something like this work? Is online only though, so perhaps too risky?

I’ve bought from and returned items to the Outnet. You have to pay for shipping, so if it does not fit, you lose something like $16. But if it does, you save quite a bundle on quality designer stuff!

Ooh, Alumother, that’s a lovely coat. I buy a lot of clothes online, so that doesn’t bother me. But the sleeves are too short (I measured). I love 3/4 sleeves, but when I’m walking around in the cold weather, I need long ones that meet my gloves. :)

What a lush coat. Would look wonderful over the purple boucle pencil skirt.

Nice coat, too bad about the color:
