Hilarious, WNP – thanks for the laughs this morning!

Gourmet, I could have hallucinated your post . . . menopause seems to have scrambled brain cells somwhat. Oh yeah . . . now I remember, it was a little rift on the cashmere robe at GH and you had reservations on their cashmere quality, which I think are well founded, btw. It’s not fabulous cashmere at all. I passed on the robe but sprung for the shawl when I started flying frequently long distances. If I lose it or stain it or tear it . . . not a tragedy.

MOWC – your feet have earned the spotlight with all the miles they have carried you.

I think that I was just pointing out that the robe is mostly cotton with a “touch” of cashmere - that’s how GH describes it, anyway. I’m sure the quality is fine. Years ago, I remember many manufacturers selling garments made from “cotton cashmere,” which was a very fine and soft cotton knit. I don’t hear that term anymore.

MOWC - I bet those are cute! I tried on the mini navy pants for the first time yesterday and really liked them. The gals at my J Crew insist on bringing me a size smaller every time I try something on. I ended up not getting them as the size they insisted was the proper fit seemed awfully snug to me. I did end up getting some toothpick jeans which will be a breeze to tuck into boots (I just can’t wrangle matchstick jeans into riding boots), but held firm on the size. I did pick up a cute cardigan off the sale rack. It’s a wool blend and rather heavy, navy/tan check, hits at the high hip, with cute eye-hooks. I can see wearing as a jacket. I almost want to put something red or orange under it. Possibly a lighter weight, slim-fitting crew neck sweater. A tailored white blouse just seems like a safety net.

Speaking of J Crew pants…Can anybody compare them, size-wise, to other pants? I have recently lost some weight and find that Talbot’s pants fit me nicely. Would you venture a guess that their sizes would be comparable to J Crew? —Something about ‘vanity’ sizing…

I think toothpick is what my D wears, although she doesn’t usually wear JCrew jeans. The jeans stretch out, so you do have to buy a smaller size. I hate that, something is either going to shrink or stretch & you have to guess which one!

Re what shoes to wear on a plane trip: I learned a lesson when I went to New Zealand. I took my shoes off (the LA to Auckland leg) and kept them off until we had to land. When I went to put my shoes on, I realized that my feet were swollen and the shoes were incredibly tight. In fact, the shoes (Danskos) were downright painful. At one point, I took them off and walked through customs in my socks. Later, I just smashed the backs of the shoes and wore them like flip flops. After that experience, I keep my shoes on or I wear clogs or other shoes without a back.

Brookfield, I find that compression socks help tremendously when it comes to controlling feet swelling on long flights. I used to have the same problem with shoes not fitting after cross-Atlantic flights, but with the socks worn for a good portion of the trip I avoid this problem. That, and wearing shoes that are expandable somewhat, like my (men’s :)) Moncler sneakers or my true and tried Merrell shoes ([Merrell Lorelei Zip Black - Zappos.com](<a href=“Merrell lorelei zip black merrell + FREE SHIPPING | Zappos.com”>Merrell lorelei zip black + FREE SHIPPING | Zappos.com)) or the Tod’s wedges I mentioned in one of my earlier posts. Of course, for the next plane trip I have to figure out what boots to wear - I’m afraid it will be too cold for sneakers.

Sewhappy, I kind of like the Dansko Oxfords. They are so lame that they are cool! Talk about fusion footwear, LOL!

Have been stalking a vintage scarf I wanted for a long time on Myhabit this morning, and now it is on its way. Now I have to re-watch the scarf tying video. And think of some neat outfits to go with the scarf. :)

Ooh – can you show a link pic to the vingtage scarf? Sounds fun.

So the Ask Teri column today seemed targeted to the Dressing Young thread. I was struck by the mention of the makeup consultation. Have never done that. My makeup “wardrobe” is very minimal. Curious what you guys think.

I’ve done makeup consultations over the years, most recently two years ago as MOG, wanting to be perfect for photos, then in the end had someone do my makeup for the event.

Very rarely do I wear makeup. Only for an “event” - and usually only lipstick - otherwise it’s just Ponds Cold Cream at night and Oil of Olay with sunscreen during the day. Sometimes lip balm. I haven’t worn makeup for decades, am lucky to have reasonably decent skin, thanks to my grandmother who advised me in my teens to use moisturizer daily and wear a hat in the sun. Recently changed to rather dramatic black eyeglass frames which seem to be emphasizing my eyes almost as if I were lining and shadowing them… unexpected surprise. Young women (and men) are liking them so I think they’re working for me.

The rest of the article was interesting, too. I like the idea of keeping the same style as we age but doing it in better versions. Also think black makes lots of styles less “young” and since I wear almost entirely dresses that certainly resonates lol

flying: I still dress up when I fly. in dresses:) I still think I’m living in the 60s with regard to travel dress. I don’t wear gloves or hats. usually.

Sorry! I swear I’d found a link that worked this morning but it turned into a pumpkin apparently.

Believe this will work though --

Q: I want to dress up my funky casual wardrobe (skinny pants, boots, some thrift-shop dresses) so that I will fit in a bit better with the social crowd I am now around (Birkins and Chanel) because of the man with whom I’ve been going out for nearly a year. No, he hasn’t complained about how I look, but he doesn’t compliment me often either. I’m in my 40s. What ideas do you have for me that won’t turn me into a walking clich

I wear a pink lip gloss from Burt’s Bees and in the winter I usually put on moisturizer. I’ve tried to persuade myself to use SPF 15 foundation, but I hate the stuff. Real suntan lotion isn’t much better since so many of them make my eyes water. For parties I dress up more - for our most recent shindig - a 1920’s themed party I gave myself rosebud red lips, thinned my eyebrows a little and wore eyeliner and smudgy dark eye shadow both above and below my eyes. It was startling how different I looked, my best friend who had invited me to the affair didn’t recognize me at first.

Hehe. For work I wear tinted moisturizer, cream blush, mascara, lipstick. Oh, and a little concealer. Oddly enough, nobody ever thinks I wear makeup at all.

Ok, jeans. What is the current silhouette? I have several pair of boot cut which I still like because I wear short boots when it’s cold out.

I have two skinny pair which I tuck into boots and wear now with flats (but I can’t imagine doing the flats with no socks once it’s below freezing!)

Shopping today I noticed lots more skinny styles and the flare and boot cut were not featured as prominently.

Have you bought jeans this season yet? What style?
