@collage1 – I’d wear something Audrey-Hepburn-ish if I had it (e.g. simple black sheath dress with high sling back shoes). If I didn’t have something like that, I would just wear a black dress that I already had. I might spring for some black elbow length gloves and a feathered mask.
Oooo, thank you, BB! At least now I have context! lol
Hmm, gloves. Fun idea@nottelling.
Excellent suggestion, nottelling. Collage, Amazon is your one stop shop for masks and gloves.
I would get a mask on a stick so it would not wreck the hair, something like this:
Yes, was looking on Amazon earlier today and was leaning towards one with a stick. Was in Venice with the kids years ago and one of my D’s bought a mask that had a ribbon to tie it on. Turns out that the mask was too heavy and it wouldn’t stay up with just the ribbon. Thus, in addition to potentially messing up my hair, I wouldn’t want to get one with a ribbon as I couldn’t be confident it would stay on.
Thanks for the suggestions. I went through my dresses and found a long one (sheath) that I’ve had for years that has a bit of a vintage feel and, despite having gone through menopause and weighing a bit more, fits really well. The mask arrived and I’m waiting for the gloves. I’m getting very excited about the party, now that I understand the theme, lol!
I have a couple pair of pumps that will complement the dress but both, after standing for an hour or two, really hurt my feet. I’ve heard about different things one can add to their shoes, (insoles?, Dr. Scholl products, etc.) that can make shoes more comfortable. Does anyone have any advice about specific products that make pumps more comfortable?
Sorry–I only wear shoes that I can comfortably wear for hours, especially if I will be standing or dancing at a party.
What kind of shoes and what kind of foot issues? Standing in one place can be hard on the feet no matter what kind of footwear one wears. Walking around and taking short sitting breaks if possible will give your feet a break.
I am enjoying all your shoe posts, BunsenBurner.
I’m looking at the fall eileen fisher. It looks good to me. It does look to me like they are going back to their original look and fabrics. I don’t need any new clothes, though. Probably I better stop looking. I’m going to call my sisters and encourage them to look and enjoy it vicariously.
@BunsenBurner, it’s been awhile since we’ve had a special occasion that required me to wear pumps but I think the ball of my foot starts to hurt after 1-2 hours so some kind of cushioning could be good and, since I usually wear flats or near flats, the tendon (?) stretching up from my heel starts to hurt after awhile from being in an unnatural, walking on near tip toes position.
I have to return a pair of booties and a pair of boots I ordered from Nordstrom Anniversary sale. My darn high arches prevents me from getting my foot in to them. Not happy!
@NorthMinnesota, that is a bummer.
@collage1, maybe you can something like this a try?

Okay I am bumping this thread up. I just got invited to a “Lularoe” clothing party thing (not a fan of the party shows but it’s a good friend. Whatever). Anyone familiar with this clothing? I know nothing about it except the leggings have inspired a cult. (Maybe I should post on that old legging thread
)
Lularoe? Boy, never heard of them, but I would not be surprised if Lululemon would try to go after them.
Let us know what you think of those leggings!
I have been enjoying my Lululemon Align yoga pants and crops. So lightweight and comfy, I have been wearing them as tights under sweater dresses.
Lularoe has taken over where I live. I have at least three friends selling, and am FB friends with several more. They sell the leggings as well as dresses and tops. The leggings are what everyone and their sister are wild over. They come in two sizes (One Size and Tall and Curvy). They are solid and print. The prints can be very loud and bold or small and delicate-and everything in between. They are very soft and supposedly feel like pajamas.
In my opinion, they pretty much look like pajamas too.
Teachers at my school wear the leggings with long tops or dresses. The fans say they suit all figure types, from tiny to plus size. They also say they look good on everyone from from toddler (yes, they have little kids too) to elderly. I fall within those guidelines and they are really not for me. I have bought a few tops and I like them with regular jeans. I bought a pair of leggings to wear with a solid color dress I had that I felt was too short. I have worn them once and felt uncomfortable the entire time.
I see lots of the dresses but I have never bought one. I just remembered they also sell skirts. I think there is a pencil, an a-line, and a maxi. I don’t see that many of those.
A few ladies have complained that their leggings have gotten holes and runs with only one or so wearings. Most consultants will work with the buyer when something like that happens.
It sounds like this company is selling tights and calling them leggings. ![]()
I have leggings that I wear under my tennis skirts when it’s cold out, and some of them are a few years old. They don’t run, way too thick.
What to wear with navy…For whatever reason, if my navy shoes don’t work with a navy skirt or pants…I wear usually black. I’m seeing more brown with navy these days…So here’s my dilemma: I’d like to wear boots and tights with a new print skirt that is predominately navy. Would you wear black boots or brown? Don’t have navy boots in my closet. Should the tights match the boots or can they be navy?..I seem to be obsessing and quite indecisive!
^^^If it were me, I’d wear navy tights. Then, I would wear black or brown boots…typically black, but I have both and either would work (I’d have to see the skirt and other accessories, but I still think both work).
The rule is to always wear brown with blue. (look at guys in suits-blue suit=brown shoes).
However I like to break rules
so I say wear what makes you happy.
I sometimes think the brown with blue thing is generational. I see older men wearing black shoes with navy suits and younger men wearing brown shoes. Don’t think there are hard and fast rules on this one. Women often have navy shoes but I get not having navy boots. I don’t own navy boots either. Wear what makes you happy/is most comfortable!
I recall that our fashion guru @Alumother had a post in her own blog about that topic! Her advice - both black and brown are fine.
To think about it, I do not recall when and if I have ever seen navy boots! I do have a pair of navy pumps and wear them dresses that have navy in the pattern.
