I’m also short and the dress comes to about 2" above my knee.
Went back to Zappos website and ordered the coral. I realize I have 2 casual summer outdoor weddings that the dress would work for.
You’ll be fine mom60. I am 5’10" so yup…too short for me for the bend over test but I love it!
@emilybee - dress arrived today. Sadly it isn’t a good fit for me.I have a curved spine and one hip is tilted and rotated. In the dress the higher hip is really noticeable. It is a beautiful dress.
The orange came today. It is beautiful in the orange. I am going to try it on for a honest friend and see what she thinks. If the rotated hip is noticeable.
I’m thinking this might be my summer of not wearing shorts as much. I ordered my first skort in my adult life.(aside from tennis attire) I also ordered a couple of casual dresses for travel

Speaking of dresses. We are going to LA area in a week, and I think I will pack several dresses and maybe a pair of shorts.

I haven’t worn shorts since Trinny and Susannah said no woman should ever wear them, period. I’m taking several pair of capri’s with me to Texas which should be fine - temps forecasted only in mid 80’s through next tuesday. Perfect timing.
I think shorts and skorts are appropriate for casual attire. They better be–they’re frequently worn throughout our state by both genders!
@emilybee @BunsenBurner - H says don’t be in such a rush to send the orange dress back. He likes it. I’ll keep it a bit longer and show my D and a friend for another opinion.
I tried on for him a couple of the dresses I bought for our Europe trip and he liked all but one. It was the one I didn’t love but thought it was a good travel dress. It’s going back to Zappos. My H was wondering what all the Zappos boxes were at the bottom of our driveway. I have two more coming and I haven’t even ordered any shoes yet. I love the free shipping both directions. I had to send back a couple of items to 6pm and it was over $10.00 for ground and it didn’t weigh much. I probably could have sent it cheaper by USPS but I was already at UPS.
Bought this dress in lkhouse red solid color (basically a deep true red) from Ross for under $20. It fits me nicely but H says I should NOT wear it to niece’s wedding, so as not to draw attention to myself.
Anyway, I like the dress and am sure I can use it.
Very nice dress, HIMom. I would wear it without hesitation! In fact, I have the same dress in a different color. It travels very nicely, no ironing, an dries super fast. Great find for under $20.
It looks like this, but a lower price tag.
I have seems tons of different colors af weddings, but will see what D thinks. She’s very close to the bride and is a bridesmaid. I really don’t think the bride cares. It’s my sister, MOB who obsesses about EVERYTHING! (She’s the one who personally made ALL the ribbon roses for her wedding favors decades ago, because she didn’t think the ones we made were perfect enough.)
^^I’d totally ask your sister first, she sounds like the type of person who would potentially get upset at a red dress at a wedding (not to slam your sister-she sounds a lot like me).
I’d also send a picture of you in the dress and say “is this ok for the wedding?” vs “can i wear a red dress to the wedding?” which would make all sorts of potentially negative images in her head…
Maybe I will just put it in on next time and ask her what she thinks before we go to lunch. That way she can see it in person and won’t be surprised and can say yes or no. On the plus side–she won’t be wearing the same dress, since it will clash with the bridesmaids lavender/purple dresses.
For her middle D’s wedding, she and I wore the exact same royal blue color and style dress for the wedding, both from Macy’s. The major difference was her dress had costume jewels on it and mine was plain. I could tell she wasn’t thrilled, so I wore a silk scarf over the top of my dress so our outfits looked quite different and I stayed toasty warm.
Ok, sent sis a link to the dress (NOT a photo of me wearing it) and asked her what she thinks if me wearing it to niece (her D)'s wedding.

I think I’m switching away from shorts in the summer and bought a couple of skorts. I’m struggling with what shoes to wear with them.

I’m good with when I’m about town in a sandal but the other day I was meeting a friend for a hike. I wore the first one with a sandal and changed into a trail runner athletic shoe for the hike. My friend felt I could wear an athletic shoe around town with a skort. Open to opinions?
I think if you like looking “sporty,” wearing athletic shoes will make it like a tennis outfit or similar and would look fine.
I love skorts. I wear them when golfing with my golf shoes and with sandals around town.
I think what you did is fine. I like sandals but I would have done the same. Changed to go on the hike. Because it’s cooler in the sandals. I don’t usually wear my walking shoes around but to walk. But the skort with trainers is perfectly acceptable.

I wear skorts with athletic shoes, sandals or zoris whenever the weather is hot enough and I feel like it.
I think this is a very striking outfit and would look amazing on the right person. It would be quite memorable.
