I walked all over San Francisco in Vionic flats. https://www.vionicshoes.com/women/flats.html
My H always had an office cardigan for the A/C in his office. In HI i generally don’t have an issue with having to swap outerwear but when I am at conferences, I wear the bulky jacket to get where the meeting/conference is and then swap to the cardigan or lighter jacket for indoors. It works well. I have started bringing lightweight stuffable down jackets that are light to carry about indoors to conferences so it’s not as much of a burden bringing them.
No, a long cardigan under a regular length jacket (butt-covering or shorter) is not a good look. I have a trench and a puffer that are proper cover length specifically for this situation.
I know it’s a bit late on the walking shoe but I brought both the Cole Haan shoe that Bunsenburner linked and a pair f flyknit Nikes to Europe a few weeks ago. My Cole Haans are older and gray suede. I got a lot of use out of both pairs of shoes. The Cole Haan were good when I wanted to look a bit more polished.
On the Nordstrom sale. I went yesterday with my D and we both were underwhelmed. Our local store has gotten really weak in selection. I ordered a few standards Natori bras and underwear but otherwise I didn’t get anything.
I think Nordstrom has really gone to an online footprint. They have a limited selection in the store, probably more in beauty and makeup but when I was in a store a couple of weeks ago, the store seemed sparse. The stuff they did have in the store was spread out, it was not jammed in there a la Macy’s. Or JC Penny’s.
I think now for many Nordstrom, you buy on line and return in the store. There may be big stores but I’ve been in smaller places.
I got several things at the sale: a pair of leopard print mules, booties, jeans for H, two sweaters for D2, Zella leggings for me, D1 and D2. Also some tops for D2 that will help get her through her pregnancy. My makeup wasn’t on sale but will get extra points as they are giving more points since they had trouble with online sales.
For those of us who don’t have the time to see a Nordstrom stylist in person, Nordstrom now runs Trunk Club for both men and women!
Okay - quick question fashion mavens. I have a “black tie optional” wedding to go to. Is a black and white striped dress okay to wear?
I am unsure about the whole don’t wear white or black to a wedding - is that still a thing?
This is a photo of what I think is my dress (I bought it a year or two ago). https://www.ebay.com/i/282728146011?chn=ps
Lovely dress!! I would wear it to a black tie optional wedding.
I just went to a black tie wedding a month or so ago and while most of the men hauled out their rarely used tuxes the women wore all kinds of different dresses. I happen to love the black and white dress in the link and it would look stunning with a well dressed man as an accessory!! I happen to love getting dressed up and it is so rare these days. My husband rather enjoys it too fortunately.
That dress is very pretty and appropriate. Throw on some red pumps for fun!
Thank you for the stamp of approval! I do have some red pumps that I wore the last time I had on this dress. They may make an appearance
Okay, apparently I am feeling fashion-challenged this month. I just picked up (clearance!) a blush velvet blazer from WhiteHouseBlackMarket that I was salivating over all December. I can definitely wear it next November/December, but my question is, is this too “holiday” to wear in January or February? (Definitely Valentine’s day because it is blush with pink tones) The store sales people all raved that I can wear it till spring, but, well, they have a vested interest ![]()
It’s no on the WHBM site but here are a few links: https://www.whitehouseblackmarket.com/Product_Images/570218298ext2.jpg?imgPolicy=productMed
I think it would look nice with dark jeans now:
Yes, you can definitely wear that. It is not too Holiday-ish at all due to the tailored cut. It’s beautiful. Have fun wearing it. I had the same dilemma, but unfortunately I do need to wait until next November/December. I sure hope crushed velvet and cold shoulder is still somewhat in fashion. I salivated over this top, but wasn’t willing to pay $89. I picked it up 2 weeks ago for $25. It actually looks better on than the model. It’s stops at the upper hip and is a tad looser in the mid section, but not snug. I got the small, so it doesn’t show the underarm fat. I want to wear it now, with my coated black jeans!
Cute! Velvet is quite popular. I would wear it with a denim or jeans!
I do like velvet. I hear you @conmama on the cold shoulder. I have a couple of tops (they are more summer than winter though) because I feel like in a year or two they will be very dated. That top still looks more timeless dressy to me though. The regular plain sweater with cutout shoulders is going to look odd in 2-3 years IMHO.
I’m going to wear my new blazer when I next go out to lunch or dinner or have a meeting that does not require staid corporate wear
Thanks @surfcity . I sort of thought the same thing. It shows shoulders, but it didn’t seems like a typical cold shoulder. I agree we have perhaps, maybe, one more year of cold shoulder sweaters and tops. I don’t think we will see a lot of it next fall. We will see some, but it won’t be as on trend.
I hope velvet never goes out of style. I pulled out on unfitted black velvet jacket to wear over a silk dress to an evening affair; I don’t know how many years I’ve had it. I wore a new plum velvet dress to the morning services.
I don’t think velvet will ever go out of style, it’s one of those timeless fabrics. Crushed velvet is sort of trendy. Heck, I remember wearing crushed velvet light blue bell bottoms in 1970…haha.
