Dressing Young (Part 1)

I’ve never seen the wool Hokas. I’ve been tempted by the All Birds, but haven’t gotten any. I have too many shoes already. I wear Rothy’s almost every day to work.

I went to the all bird store in NYC. I really like the tree loungers and if I could have justified 2 pairs, I would have bought them. Decided to stay with the original wool shoes. The size that I wear in athletic shoes was the size I was in the wool all birds. I went one size smaller in the tree lounger but I have pretty slim feet.

@MomofWildChild I’ve been tempted by the Rothy’s. Do you have the pointed or round toe box? I have a lot of shoes as both my S and DIL work for shoe companies but nothing that fits the niche of a flat similar to Toms.

Ordered the tree runner All Bird in a Burgandy color. I was tempted to also order a slip on but I’m going to wait.

I really dislike pointed and cramped toe boxes and must prefer roomier ones. I will probably continue to try on shoes instore before purchasing. I hate shoes that don’t fit right.

Regarding nice flowey white blouse, I really Ellie Tahari blouses. I couldn’t copy it, but hopefully this works

@mom60 I have the round toed Rothys and the pointed. Both are incredibly comfortable and washable. The pointy ones are a tad dressier looking although the round toed ones have a “v” but out so are stylish, too. A bunch of us at work have them and I get asked about them many times a day wherever I go. The colors are terrific. I have a number of pairs now. The prints go with more things than you would think. They feel like sneakers and are good for travel. I wear my regular street shoe size. The quality is consistent and so is the fit.

Oh I have been wondering about Rothys! Keep the reviews coming.

I’m afraid to look them up because they will be all over my ads! Can’t turn the Adblock on, unfortunately. Now it is allbirds.

Well, I want a pair of BOTH - Rothy’s AND Allbirds!!!

The Rothy prices hold me back a bit. But if I knew I loved them and would wear them repeatedly I might try - are they only sold online - not in stores??? (I hate department stores but might go in one to try them)

If someone is serious about buying Rothy’s you can refer a friend to get them $20 off and then when they purchase, get $20 off for yourself: https://rothys.com/share

They have one store in San Francisco and otherwise just on their website. I can pretty much guarantee that you would love them and reach for them often. They feel like sneakers and look very polished. They work for skirts and jeans.

I’m another who wears Rothy’s daily. Sadly, with my C-width foot, the pointed toe models don’t work, but the regular flat is perfect (I size up a half size). Also love my new pair of Rothy’s loafers. If anyone wants a discount link, send me a PM, and I’ll use my $20 off to try the new Rothy sneaker (https://rothys.com/womens/slip-on-sneakers) and report back.

I’m willing to help out with a discount link, too. PM me if interested. I want to try the sneaker, too.

I haven’t been through this entire thread, so forgive me if this has been answered - can I wear a white top to an evening “Black Tie Welcome” wedding?

I finally found a dress I like. It’s a wrap style, long with white top and black skirt. Now I keep reading that wearing any white is in poor taste. I don’t want to be a walking faux pas, but can’t imagine anyone thinking this 50-ish woman is trying to compete with the bride!

What you are describing is perfectly appropriate - a dress with a black skirt and white top is classic and not remotely bridal looking. The rule against wearing white has to do with avoiding anything that looks bridal.

Thanks - I hope so because I felt like I found the unicorn - fits, my style, looks good even in the fat mirror, etc.

It wasn’t until I googled “Black Tie Welcome” that the fashion police opinions started popping up and making me worried. Event is in NYC and is work related.

I’m sure you will be just fine and look terrific! So glad you found that unicorn—must be a relief!

Sounds like a great dress and very much black tie-appropriate. A white top absolutely can’t be confused with a wedding dress. Wear it and have fun!

@houndmom dress sounds lovely and appropriate. When you find that perfect fit it feels so good.
I’m going to order the Rothy flat. Still deciding on color. I love the persimmon but think I will go with a neutral. Deciding between navy, black, mink, grey Birdseye or the flax. I mainly wear jeans so I might eliminate the navy. My Allbirds are scheduled to arrive on Monday. I think I will also get the Hoka grey wool. Three new pairs of shoes but I’m feeling a need for something when I don’t want to wear Toms or a bootie.
On another topic- jeans. I have a pair of AG skinny jeans that are distressed. I love them and the fit but one of the knee holes has grown in size and I don’t like the look. The jeans have a lot of stretch. Has anyone tried patching or making a hole smaller?
