I hate wearing socks unless it’s with athletic shoes or boots. I have been wearing a pair of those thin just over your toes liner thingys with my current fall shoes - does anyone have a very low liner they have used that might be just a little thicker/warmer? Like a light fleece?
SmartWool makes a liner sock for slip-on shoes. I haven’t tried them myself so I don’t know how comfortable or warm they are.
Once it gets this cold, I just can’t stand to have bare ankles. It makes my whole body cold. On casual work days I can wear jeans and a “fashion” sneaker and I always wear socks. I wear the Costco soft wool socks most of the time, even with boots, and I found that I am warmer in general when I do that.
Reporting back on my Allbirds. I reached out to them about my heel slipping. They suggested taking the insole out and seeing if my heel stayed out and if it did to try wearing them as the insole will compress with wear. They have a return in 30 days even if you’ve worn them. I tried it without the the sole and no slipping. I’m wearing them around the house and will see what happens. You could definitely wear the Allbirds with socks. My plan for the Allbirds is to wear them with jeans.
This is my favorite boot. https://www.zappos.com/p/ugg-bonham-grey/product/9117193/color/401?ef_id=W8bNWQAAAH8kXWm3:20181019160520:s I wear it without socks as it has a sheepskin insole. I get compliments when I wear them. The ultimate compliment is my D borrows them whenever she housesits.
My other favorite shoe with jeans is an old style slip on sneaker from a discontinued line by Ugg. Ugg briefly had a brand called I heart Ugg for tweens. They are canvas top with a sheepskin insole. I haven’t found another brand of canvas slip ins that fit as well.
Nice casual booties.
A boot with removable insole can be doctored with a Superfeet sheepskin/wool insole.
I cannot wear any type of sock resembling “thick”. When I say “thick” that means anything that is not quite thin!!! But I will check out the SmartWool!
Oh, I like that boot!
I really like that boot, too! Does it feel like that’s much of a heel? Is the liner cushioning under your heel?
I never heard of RotheS or ALLBIRDS. CAN YOU O LYMORDER THEM ONLINE.?
I hope I did ok by my son’s fiancé. She wanted booties without heavy lining, like UGGS. Something to wear for fun. I sent her pictures from NM and Bloomies, and Cole Hann. She choose the CH Harrington slouch.
I believe that Rothy’s and Allbirds can only be bought online - except I think Allbirds has a store or two in the country.
Rothy’s sure got a big business boost I’m sure this week with Megan Markle showing up in photos wearing their shoes.
Rothys has a store in San Francisco that I missed visiting by one day when I was there on business and it was just opening!
Are Rothy’s exceptionally comfortable? Give me the elevator pitch, plz.
I am REALLY picky about shoes (I’m a competitive runner) and I travel on business and need to haul butt through airports and through large facilities. Rothys are perfect! A lot of the women at work have gotten them now. They are stylish and feel like sneakers. They are washable and easy to pack. I get compliments everywhere I go. I can wear them all day and they feel great.
I’d love to try them… but I don’t do well in absolutely flat flats. Are they flat flat like Tory Burch flats or are they not so flat like Paul Green?
Thanks. I might give my daughter a gift card to Rothy’s for Christmas. She is just starting out and lives in a high COL area. We have a running joke about how I’m such a mom, and fretting over the low quality of her footwear and the health of her feet (current + future).
It’s not something she would ever buy for herself. Not in the budget at this point in her life.
@BunsenBurner - I don’t do well in most totally flats but I am finding the Rothy flat to be comfortable. A test for flats for me is a trip to Costco and Home Depot and how my feet feel after. The Rothys passed the test with flying colors. I have a problem in most flats with my heel slipping out and I didn’t have that problem with the Rothys nor did the ball of my foot hurt after a lot of walking on concrete.
@psychmomma I don’t wear heels and I find the Ugg boot to be comfortable. It took a little getting to used to but I can walk for miles in them. They look really good with jeans, leggings and tights. They also are good in cold weather. I live in California but I think they would be great in a colder harsher winter environment. I think the link is to a older version. The latest version I think has a slightly different styled back. Mine are a pretty chestnut color.
I wore my Allbirds last night for the first time. We ended up parking a lot further from our destination and I did end up with blisters on my heels. My feet are wimpy.
Replying to Bookworm. Coincidentally, I have been looking for a comfortable pair of booties. My Cole Haan Harrington’s arrived yesterday, and they’re great. And on sale! https://www.colehaan.com/harrington-grand-slouch-bootie-35mm-black/192004111711.html
Very attractive footwear, but I really prefer to be able to try things on before buying. Maybe I will try when in SF.
@BunsenBurner They are flat but cushioned. They feel like zero drop running shoes. Not jarring when you walk like Tory Burch.
Perfect! Thanks @MomofWildChild and @mom60 .
I like the teal one with orange stripe.
