Dressing Young (Part 1)

2 questions

  1. has anyone ordered from everlane? They have some cashmere sweaters that look intriguing

  2. I would like a pair of black or gray high waisted skinny jeans. I am very picky but still. I must have ordered at least 6 pairs this year. Including a style that I love in a dark wash jean. Every single one is so baggy in the knees and fits differently than my “regular” jeans do. Any recommendations? I’d like to stay under $100 but if they are really good I’d up that.

My “go to” shop for jeans is Madewell (a JCrew company, but better).

@deb922 I have three Everlane cashmere crewneck sweaters (the $100.00 version). They are very nice quality and excellent wardrobe staples.

I also purchased a camel coat a couple of years ago that is perfect. Just read the size charts carefully - they provide garment measurements that are very helpful. I think the crewnecks run a little small (actually probably true to size, rather than vanity sizing), but I tried a Wool Cashmere square cut that was roomy even in Medium.

I plan to try some of Everlane’s jeans soon. They offer a number of high waist skinny styles that may work for you. Every pair is modeled by women in different sizes so you get a feel for how they may look on you.

Sometimes Loft gets it right for skinny jeans. I have one pair I like a lot – accommodates my hips, no back gap and no knee bag. Every high end jean I’ve ever tried seems cut for a very different body …

@deb922 - I spent yesterday trying on jeans. I must have tried on 20 pairs. They were all the same brand in basically two styles. The fit and size I needed varied on the fabric composition. That is one reason with pants I like to be able to try them on. I also like a skinny jean. I ended up with a dark black, a pair that is a more dark charcoal black and a pair of dark denim. The brand that fits me best is AG. I wanted mid rise but they are making more styles now in high rise. I didn’t try on any skinny high rise. I ended up with two pairs that are the Stilt and one that is the legging ankle. The stilt is skinny but not as skinny as the legging ankle. I buy mine at the AG outlet. I spent under $300 for three pairs. One pair was regularly $215 on sale after added discount for multiple pairs of just $97. My daughters and I have been wearing AG pants for years and they last. I’ve tried other brands and I’m always disappointed.
I thought of CC when I was shopping yesterday as they had white denim jeans still for sale.

Jean fit is very, very personal IMO. AG and Burberry Brit make jeans that are like second skin for my butt, so I stick with these brands. I also like Sportmax Code (by Max Mara) jeans that have purportedly patented construction, but those are very hard to find. I only found them in Max Mara stores and online.

I am so in the dark - what does AG stand for???

AG is a brand, usually referred to as “AG” but it stands for Adriano Goldschmied. You can see why they call it AG. It’s a premium line- good fit and quality.

I bought a fabulous pair of stretch skinny denim, high waisted. I feel so skinny in them. I bought them in the dark wash and it hides my backside imperfections. The lighter shade doesn’t.

I love not having to pull my jeans up!

^^^^^Those look great!! Just ordered some.

error.

@MomofWildChild …they really are! They are on the thinner side with lots of stretch. They really hold you in, too. I love them, and they are a great price right now. I’m reconsidering the lighter color and just wearing a longer top with that. You’ll have to let me know how you like them. I felt they were true to size.

I ordered my normal jeans size (27), so here’s hoping! They were only $45 with tax! I’ll pick them up at the Macy’s not far from my house.

Have you all seen many cranberry colored clothes this year, especially on jeans? Well, TJ Max had Hudson jeans for $70, BR about the same, and the GAP, $22.

@MomofWildChild , I’m an 8, so a size 29. The dark wash fit perfectly. I did try on the lighter shade and the 29 was smaller than the dark wash. I might try a 30 just to see. Just FYI.

Thanks. I ordered a pair of AG Jeans, farrrah and while I think they fit really well, they are a little too long and I’m trying to decide if I want to hem them or return them. I’m having better luck with kut from the Kloth jeans. The fit is great, the length is great, they do stretch out a little more than I would like.

I think I might order the jeans from everlane. And I might try madewell jeans. I ordered a pair during the Nordstrom sale but again they were too long and the rise was a little too high. I see that they come in petites so I might try that.

@conmama those jeans look really nice. I just took the tags off a pair of similar jeans so I am resisting

I’m truly a princess in a pea trying on jeans. I have too many that I buy and then hate.

I’ve had good luck with Old Navy Rockstar skinny jeans, which surprised me because in the past, Old Navy jeans got baggy on me as the day went on.

Hoping the expert shoppers here can help. My D is attending a formal Muslim wedding in upstate New York on NYE. She cannot find an appropriate dress - pretty sure that she needs to wear a gown, with covered shoulders and a higher neckline. Nothing spray painted on.

Everything out there that fits the bill is dreadfully matronly. She’s 26, 5’5", dark hair, pale skin and blue eyes, and a size 0 - very straight figure.

Hates lace, appliques, peplums, dropped waistlines, ruching, turtlenecks, HELP!

@Gourmetmom Would this dress work for your daughter? I realize the back is open but you did not say anything about the back and it meets other criteria and comes in different colors:

I’m not sure about the open back, but probably not - I know that the family is very conservative, and D will want to err on the side of caution. The Papell dress is very pretty, but I forgot to mention that she also dislikes cap sleeves.
