Dressing Young (Part 1)

The commmnet on this one indicates they wore it for a wedding and it worked well. https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/carly-patchwork-dress?category=dresses-maxi-midi&color=059

Not a lot of sizes left, but this seems a pretty option.

@Leaper12, that dress would be perfect. The satin makes it special and jewelry could be added to up the glitz factor if desired.

That is an easy fix. Just wear a camisole underneath.

She could dress this up: adriannapapell.com/draped-jersey-gown-with-long-sleeves-AP1E204090.html

Anthropologie has some nice dresses.
A camisole can always help with a neckline. Also a slit leg can also be altered to not show as much leg.

@ECmotherx2 I agree with the dress you shared in post 8924…I had posted it earlier today in post #8904. ;

When we were in Jordan, it appeared that the neck was the prime area of concern. We’d be eating in fancy hotel dining rooms and young women would come in wearing thin turtlenecks under mini cocktail dresses. These women didn’t cover their heads, just their necks. This is no longer available, but I love the look: https://www.tradesy.com/i/theia-crimson-red-and-black-882560-embellished-turtleneck-mixed-media-ballgown-long-formal-dress-siz/21032910/

Can anyone suggest a lightweight blazer or sweater to go with this dress? I work in a “business casual” environment in the financial services industry with no customer contact. https://www.dillards.com/p/leslie-fay-puff-print-shift-dress/507987814?di=05366400_zi_magenta_navy&categoryId=894&facetCache=pageSize%3D96%26beginIndex%3D0%26orderBy%3D1

@mathmom, that dress is my favorite of all the suggestions so far. Too bad it’s not available!

That’s a very cute dress! Maybe a cashmere cardigan in solid color from Lands End, now while 40% off sale is in effect? I bought several last Christmas and have been very happy with the quality. They hold their shape and are a nice weight. At 40-50% off, decent price and nice warmth for A/C.

@ScienceGirlMom I have several Max Studio dresses that are similar in look to that dress that I wear at work. I bought a couple of colors of this cardigan and I like the way the longer length looks as opposed to a shorter cardigan. It looks soft but not heavy. Makes those spring/fall dresses work for winter (I wear with tights).

These are not expensive but you could find similar at other stores I’m sure - I just think the length works well.

I can’t help on the blazer front - I have none!

@ScienceGirlMom how casual do you want to be over the dress? I usually like Anthropology or Chicos for jackets and sweaters. https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/alberta-cloudfleece-cardigan?category=sweaters-cardigans&color=052&quantity=1&type=REGULAR https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/tied-sleeve-blazer?category=jackets-coats&color=041&quantity=1&type=REGULAR https://www.chicos.com/store/product/sueded+drape+jacket/570244314?color=4537&catId=cat40001

That Theia dress is perfect. Theia’s dresses are very well made. Unfortunately, even if it was still available, @Gourmetmom said her D would not wear a turtleneck. We were told that lightweight silk scarves wrapped around the neck usually solve the problem for dresses that don’t cover the neck.

How about this navy dress? I think it’s quite elegant.

Thanks @HImom, @abasket, and @Singersmom07! This is exactly the information that I was hoping to receive.

@ScienceGirlMom -I also have found Target usually has some nice simple cardigans.

This is the style I bought last year:

I think it was cheaper on Black Friday—50% off.

@ScienceGirlMom - I would wear that dress with a cardigan like suggested by @abasket. A blazer is a bit too structured for this dress. I work in a business casual office, and that is what I would wear (and do wear) with dresses. Check Eileen Fisher cardigans… they are great.

For example…

I’d suggest you may wish to try your dress on with several different sweaters at different lengths, to see what looks best on you and makes you happiest.
