Dressing Young (Part 1)

@MomofWildChild, I’m sorry if I missed this in another post, but did you have a preference for the Allbirds wool runners or tree runners? I’m wanting to order a pair of one of them in blue, but not sure if one looks/wears better than the other? Thanks! Mine would be just to wear around with jeans, not actually for running.

I’m no MOWC but I have the wool allbirds. I tried on the tree runners but decided to go with the wool. They are both very nice, I like the look of the wool a little better. Personal preference

I do not have any personal experience but Jambu is the deal of the day for good morning America. They have a wool sneaker that is a clone for the allbirds. 50% off today, free shipping at $50.

I only have the wool allbirds (laces). I have the red and wore them traveling last week and they were great. I would never run in them!

It doesn’t look like the Jambus have the fuzzy inside lining, though. Otherwise, what a great deal!

Been following this thread. Lot’s of great ideas! Quick question on the William Rast jeans from Macy’s. I love the dark wash ones that @conmana and @MomofWildChild linked to. Online but they are pictured as ankle length, but on me they come just past the top of my booties or to the top of loafers. Do you think that ruins the look? These jeans don’t seem to come in petite. I welcome all advice.

Hmm- I think the length is fine and I don’t mind them being a little longer. I’m 5’4".

I also got some really comfortable black booties by Earth to replace the Birkenstock booties that I had the bad falls wearing. https://www.zappos.com/marty/p/earth-watson-black-soft-calf/product/9090570/color/8618

I had the $30 off they gave me for the fall (they also wound up crediting me back for both pairs of Birky boots). The Earth boots are going to be perfect. They are a soft (not stiff) leather and are a good replacement. I did love those Birkys, though.

Good Allbirds article. https://www.newyorker.com/culture/on-and-off-the-avenue/the-optimized-anti-style-of-allbirds-shoes?utm_medium=social&utm_social-type=owned&utm_brand=tny&utm_source=twitter&mbid=social_twitter

^^Hush Puppies reinvented.

I have not succumbed to the Allbirds yet. Maybe when my Jambu wool sneakers and Suede Sketchers loafers wear out. But then I’m seeing ads for Bass Weejuns on twenty somethings on my Instagram because I follow my kids and my kids’ friends on Instagram so Instagram probably thinks I’m twenty plus I still have 2 pair from the 80s in the back of my closet  so maybe I need to dig them out and polish them up. My mother always said classics never go out of style.

Well, my Boss dress arrived and is going back. Gorgeous color, great fabric, so well made, but the fit is very weird. Huge in the hips and bust, but the non-adjustable belt is almost too tight, and the fabric bunches up around the waist…

Thanks for the advice@MomofWildChild! The fit is very flattering and the jeans are very comfortable. I was just concerned about the length. I’m about your height so it’s good to know that the length is ok. I love the Earth booties you chose. I’ve been thinking about Allbirds for sometime now. They look so comfortable, but not sure I can pull off such a young look! This thread is inspiring me to move out of my comfort zone and try a more updated look!

@RonnieGirl , I’m 5’8” and they are to the top of a loafer I guess, I have enough ankle length pants, so like the longer length with my heels. I wore them tonight with animal print heels.

I have the Allbirds wool runners and a pair of the tree skippers for summer wear. Unfortunately, the tree skippers had to be sent back for a larger size and I didn’t get a chance to wear much before colder weather. Hint: I am size 7 1/2 and needed size 7 for wool runners and 8 fore skippers. I love my wool runners. My general casual “uniform” is leggings with a boyfriend cardigan or a tunic with my wool runners.

I thought I was on the Allbirds train. I DO still like the classic charcoal grey one. And I like the idea of the warm lining inside. But in all honesty for me, it’s just the grey ones I like…and I don’t know, I don’t think they look “young” - if anything…(ducking for tomatoes) the opposite to me!

They are fine in looks - but if I’m commenting on them looking young - I say no.

I completely agree, abasket. My hesitation was whether or not they looked “granny-ish”. I love my red ones, and I know shoes like that are taking off in the tech workplaces in particular, but I don’t see a wardrobe of them in my future the way I do Rothys.

They look entirely comfortable! And for some reason the grey ones appeal to me with a pair of ankle crop jeans so I think it’s all in the way you stage them.

I guess that’s the difference with many things. You can put them on a 25 year old and put them on a 50 year old but how you wear them is what makes the difference in how they are perceived.

I looked at the webpage again for Allbirds. It’s interesting to me that they are marketing it to young adults. Again though, I notice that what you wear with them determines the young or old feel.

I totally don’t think they are only one way or another in terms of age.

@abasket

Which style of Allbirds? The lace-ups? Loungers? All of the above?

I promise not to be offended!

I’m having a mildly icky day. I put on a rock band T-shirt, a favorite pair of jeans, and a boot similar to Doc Martins. I feel ready to kick this day into submission!

I have wonderful slippers with removable rubber soles called Mahabis. I live in them in the house (and front yard with the dogs) all winter. Sadly, the slip on Allbirds remind me too much of them and in my mind look too “slipperish”.
