Dressing Young (Part 1)

@Midwest67 I think it depends on the color somewhat. I lean towards the loungers looking more “old”. Some of the white soled ones (all models) tweak old to me. But again - I really went back and checked my mind on this - I really think it’s what you wear them with.

I guess if you already feel like you dress “old” then I’d beware of how you’re wearing these if you think they will make you look young!

Allbirds runners are available at Nordstrom now - 3 colors: green, purple, gray (all heathered, from what I can tell). A way to use up gift cards and notes.

Pink and blue heathered are Nordie exclusive for women and men, respectively. The reviews are not that stellar.

Looks like none available online from Nordstrom. Sold out.

My link shows sizes up to 9 in heathered pink (or purple?) are available.

Funny that women’s have great reviews, and men’s have so-so reviews.

I’m now seeing a heathered purple. Before I did every kind of search and only the grey showed up and it showed sold out! The purple is pretty!

This thread has been educational. When the conversations started about Airbirds a while back, I had never heard of them and looked them up.

Lo and behold, my 32 year old daughter, whom I let choose what she wants for her birthday presents, told me that one of the 3 gifts she wanted me to get her was she wanted Airbirds. Due to this thread, I knew what she meant, LOL! I even told her that is how I knew what Airbirds were when she mentioned it to me. I haven’t seen hers yet, but she was very happy to get them. Oh, and the latest conversation here about Airbirds not looking “young,” she is young!

^^This is why I re-evaluated my comment. I think they can look young depending how you wear them. If you wear them with long baggy pants with an elastic waist, not young!

It’s sort of like to make the Allbirds “young” you have to make them the star of the show (outfit) - does that make sense? Highlight their quirkyness.

LOL, sooze. It’s “ALLbirds”. We need to make sure we stay “cool” as older folks! (laughing with you- not at you)

I’m liking the looks of the Hoka wool runners (casual shoes).

I kind of like the look of their Hupana slip-ons! Great option for my Mr. who absolutely hates shoelaces.

Re: Allbirds. I like the styles where the sole color matches the color of the upper. I’m wearing mine now!

^^^ That’s how my red ones are and I love that!

I like that, too.

I’m still planning on trying the wool Hoka but haven’t gotten to their shop yet. I also am going to try the slip on. My S said he has a pair of Hoka he picked up at work but he didn’t tell me what style they are.

I ended up keeping my Allbirds but I am one of the few who haven’t yet been able to wear them for miles. They are short in the heel depth for my feet. I am waiting for the wool insole to compress and at that point I think I will be happier with them. I wore them to a sporting event where we had to walk pretty far from the stadium. By the end of the evening I had blisters on my the back of my feet. I haven’t invested a lot of time wearing them to get them to a point where I can wear them for hours. I have wimping feet. What I do like about the Allbirds is that they have a nice wide toe box. Mine are the tree fabric and are burgundy with a white sole. I don’t think they look “young” but are popular with young people.
I’m enjoying my Rothy round toe.

These look cool, too.

So, do I treat myself to a pair of Allbirds or Roth’s? Right now, I wear my Cole Hahn sneakers for my airport travel and running around town.

IMO Allbirds are more casual and Rothy’s can go either way - casual or a little nicer.

^^Agree. Rothys are my go-to shoes for work and business trips (unless it is really cold and I have booties or boots on).

Opinion question - do you judge clothing/accessory brands by the models they choose?

I have a couple of Longchamp pieces that I really like, but am very turned off by their decision to have member of a “reality” tv series as their latest model. Guess that’s kinda petty, but I liked this brand because I associated it with understated elegance - which is the complete opposite of their new spokesperson.
