Dressing Young (Part 1)

I had no idea longchamp was using a certain reality star as their model. Had to go to their website. Disappointing but I’m probably not their demographic

Ugh. The model choice is not my cup of tea. I would hang on to the pieces because they pre-dated the model selection and not buy more.

I saw it in a magazine … thought I was their demographic, but guess not!

@MomofWildChild: LOL, I guess I wasn’t as “educated” by this thread as I said I was because I called them Airbirds instead of Allbirds! Ha!

Our flagship Nordstrom has a whole display of allbirds. Woolens and runners. I did not like the boiled wool… it felt very scratchy to me. They need to make a cashmere version and sell it on the second floor! The runners were just OK.

Overall, the first floor shoe department looked bleak. Apart from AGL and Paul Green, the other brands’ stuff looked cheap and plastic-y. The second floor shoe department looked so much better if you don’t look at the price stickers.

I finally made it to the Deckers brand showroom store. Deckers is the parent company for Hoka. I tried on the wool Hupana which is similar to the wool Allbirds. I was wearing my Allbirds Treerunner so I was able to compare the style side by side. The Hoka has a similar shape but slightly narrower at the toe box. The major difference is that the Hoka does not have a wool insole. I wasn’t able to get an answer from the salesperson if the Hoka wool was made to be worn without socks. The heel of the Hoka is deeper and I found it worked better for my feet. I had no heel slipping without socks. I did not try them with socks. I had on skinny jeans and the shoe looked great. Overall for my feet I would go with the Hoka. My only wish is that they had a wool insole.
I also tried on the Hoka Hupana knit slip on and the Hupana knit lace up style. The slip on was very comfortable without a sock but I Didn’t care for the overall look. The lace ups were very comfortable and I think looked attractive with jeans. My 24 year old D ended up ordering both the wool and the knit lace up styles.

It is lightweight, comfortable toebox and very attractive. Looked great with jeans. We both ended up ordering this one.
I will eventually get the wool Hoka and probably also the knit.

@mom60 - Hoka has removable insoles. You can easily slip in a wool Superfeet one, I bet. I love those Superfeets.

@BunsenBurner good to know. I have some Superfeet insoles but didn’t know they came in wool.
I’m hoping that I find the wool Hupana under some holiday gift wrap this December.

I’m liking my wool Hupanas.

Here are the grey ones:

Don’t know where to put this and don’t want to start a thread - has anyone bought cuddl duds? I’ve heard the are fantastic as a bottom layer when it’s cold out. If so, what did you buy?

https://cuddlduds.com

Target sells a version of cuddlduds. I bought their version of the fleece wear with stretch legging. I love them. I’ve never worn them underneath anything. They’re my after-work relaxing pants on a cold night.

I know there are several different kinds but I’m asking about the ones you wear like long underwear. I need them for when we go to Iceland as an extra layer for warmth as I’m not schlepping my long down coat. We will be there in May/early June and avg temps are in mid 50’s.

Mid-50s? IMO, underlayers come into play when the temps are in the 30s. Look for silk base layers. The Cuddleduds are probably too warm for that purpose.

I find cuddle duds at TJ Maxx. The bottoms are a little bit like loose thin leggings. They work well, I have bottoms and tops.

To be honest, I like under Armour for the tops, breathes a little better.

Cuddle duds are usually discounted after Christmas. They sell them at kohl’s also.

I don’t wear my down coat when the weather is in the 50’s. I find a thinner coat with layers works well

I don’t know if that helps

I will be cold when we are in Iceland and only want to take a fleece jacket to wear under my puffer vest.

I think I’ll order the thinnest bottoms and tops (the non fleece ones) ans see how I like them.

Thx for all the advice!

I’m too lazy to search for best price so will just order direct from cuddle duds.

Lol @emilybee Do you live somewhere really warm? When you routinely deal with temps in the twenties to single digits you consider 50 warm and requiring only a regular old shirt and a fleece at most.

@mays54,

No, I live in the grim north, but I consider 50ish chilly - especially in late May/early June. Plus, most of our excursions will start early in the day and last 13-14 hours so will likely be colder in the morning.

Of course with global warming it could be in the 80’s!

Last year, bought cuddleduds tips for women at great discount from LandsEnd. They are nice for layering and easy care. Thus year I also bought merino wool long sleeved T-shirts from Costco.com. Love both of them plus my icebreaker wool tank tops as bottom layer.

Cuddleduds tops for women were top rated by wirecutter. They are more attractive and thicker than 32degree heat Costco carries.

Let’s talk travel clothing!

My trusted maxi travel dress is nearing the end of its life… I was in need of a replacement, and tried many until I found this one. Very comfy. I like to travel in comfort, and this type of a maxi dress is perfect for flights to Hawaii. The length is just right to keep my legs warm during the flight. What is your favorite travel “style”?
