Dressing Young (Part 1)

Watching it as we speak. I really like the Sunday night documentaries that CNN has been airing lately.

The power of style is that you can say so much without ever opening your mouth.

I “test drove” my new travel dress. It is excellent for long plane trips to sunnny destinations. We got off the plane and instantly blended in

@BunsenBurner : Can you post a link to your travel dress?

This is it:

Sold out.

Several years ago @Gourmetmom recommended Pixie pants from J Crew for my daughter. Unfortunately they no longer have those. They were medium weight leggings that were structured,so a bit dressier that plain leggings. Any suggestions on anything that may be similar?

The description says “new and improved version of Pixie.”

@BunsenBurner, thanks for the link. I was excited to see they were on sale until I saw that the only sizes were XX small or XXX small. What does that even mean?

I plugged my measurements into their fit finder, and it gave me “S.” - my usual size (IT 42 US 6-8).Those must be sizes 0-2

Here is the newer version (new fabric):

The zipper in the back may be a bit uncomfortable, though it is undoubtably stylish

Love that dress! Of course, there are hardly any sizes available in those JCrew pants online. JCrew is really struggling. If they didn’t have Madewell, they would be in bankruptcy like many of the other retailers.

WA v MLM… let’s see who has more teeth:

To read anything from the Seattle Times from the link, one must turn off adblocker, or create an account or subscribe.

I was able to read the article. There have been many suits against Lularoe and many sellers have really lost money. It is MLM and very risky. I have some friends who are still selling and many who have cut their losses and bailed. It’s a lot of work and while I like a lot of the clothes, the quality is very hit or miss.

I wonder why it won’t let me read it?

If anyone is interested i listened to the dream podcast. Here’s an article about the podcast. It’s a unvarnished look at MLM’s

It was fascinating https://www.vanityfair.com/style/2018/09/the-dream-podcast-preview

@conmama I was able to read the article with no problem.
Our J Crew closed a few years ago. I used to love their clothing but our local store was small and never had much inventory. I don’t know about the back zipper. I just today put in my donate pile a pair of JCrew pants that I loved that had a side zipper.
I returned a bunch of dresses to Nordstrom this past week. It was my first time being in the store in a longtime and I was shocked at how little inventory they had. They have removed an entire section of women’s shoes and replaced it with a service counter. They have racks of boxes and bags with what I’m guessing are online purchases waiting for pickup. It just didn’t look professional. My D and I went up to look at the dress department and it has also shrunk in size. I’m finding it pretty depressing and frustrating to attempt to go shopping for clothes at brick and mortar locations. I am wondering if I want to actually find items in a store to try on I’m going to need to go to Los Angeles.

@BunsenBurner I’m assuming your in your tropical paradise. Have a wonderful trip.

Nordstroms are like that everywhere! Very little inventories. Too bad. I used to swing by the flagship often and would buy something periodically. Not so much anymore. There’s nothing in my size, so why bother… I can just order online. The quality of their undies went downhill, and the shoes are also sort of plastic-y or $500+ a pair. Sad days. It will bite them in the rear because some of their loyal customers still like to shop in stores.

@mom60 - thanks, we are in HI to sun our pale skins a little bit.

Thanks for helping our economy, @BunsenBurner! We sure need it!

Always happy to help, @HImom !

I am irritated that our flagship Nordstrom spent a small fortune on “updating.” Now it looks empty and sterile with its white floors and walls. And don’t get me started on those DOGS!!!

I’m in the market for a pair of black ballet flats and remember a previous discussion on these pages about Rothy’s flats. I’m wondering if anybody has experience comparing them with Tieks. I have a pair of Tieks that I enjoy wearing but would like to support Rothy’s as I love the idea of using recyclables in shoes. Curious how they compare to Rothy’s.
