Paging @MomofWildChild ! She is our flats expert. ?
I have both brands and Rothy’s are about 100 times more comfortable, in my opinion. I would highly recommend them. I don’t even reach for my Tieks anymore. I do think if you get the pointy Rothy’s you should go a half size up. I can wear my true since in the pointy style, but the 1/2 size up is a little more room.
^^^ That’s interesting to hear that the Rothy’s are that much more comfortable than Tieks.
You know how picky I am about comfort in shoes. I thought I loved Tieks until I tried Rothy’s. The soles also hold up better. I was chipping the front of my Tiek’s soles, if that makes sense. Rothy’s feel like sneakers. A lot of the women at my company- especially ones who travel- have multiple pairs of Rothy’s because they are great for walking through airports and some of our large facilities.
Based on previous Rothy’s discussions here, I gave my oldest D a gift card to Rothy’s for Xmas so she could afford to try a pair. She is having a little trouble finding the right size and whether to go with the insole or without. She’s on her second size try now. She says she sees a lot of women wearing them at work and around town. I desperately want the shoes to be perfect for her.
They come with insoles. The extra ones that you buy are just if you want a spare or a different color. So far I haven’t seen the need for color-changing my insoles! I hope your daughter finds a good fit and likes them!
I wear a wide so started buying online because there’s so much more selection. I was surprised about how cute and modern the Lifestride shoes and booties are. I’ve never seen Lifestride these trendy in stores, most look dowdy. When I get compliments which happens a lot people can’t believe they are LifeStride. https://www.zappos.com/marty/p/lifestride-giada-mushroom/product/9127353/color/1679
I didn’t find Tieks comfortable at all. Thinking of trying Rothy’s.
I never tried Tieks because every scrunched flat I tried was like a torture device for my feet. Might give Rothy a shot.
In other footwear news, I give five stars to La Canadienne for their traction control! The streets have been covered with ice here for the last few days, and my boots were awesome.
I have 1 pair of the rounded toe Rothys and agree they are comfy. For a lower price point flat I recommend Born Julianne . I have them in 3 colors.
I bow down to you. My feet hurt just looking at those boots (the heel). Super cute though.
One of my greatest thrift store finds was a pair of black tall La Canadienne boots in my size. You know, for like $25. I grabbed them and held them tightly to my chest, as if someone was going to come along and take them from me.
Then I drive my kids, H, and friends crazy by pointing out I didn’t pay retail. I can’t have nice things (at retail prices)!
@Midwest67 I hadn’t worn any sort of heel in 25 years. Would have told you I absolutely positively could not wear heels. Then I bought a different pair of LifeStride online. Not as small a heel as these but still cute. Read reviews that said things like “these are the first pair of heels I was able to wear in decades.” So I tried them. They were life-changing. It was these. https://www.zappos.com/p/lifestride-jezebel-tan-dusty/product/9127376/color/779058
They were MORE comfortable than many of my flats. They made me branch out a lot. I find I can very comfortably wear many Life Stride.
@maya54 - thanks, those booties (9071) do look cute. Kid has very muscular calves, and finding boots for her is a hassle… so she a booties fan. I will pass the booties info to her.
I’ve still been having some tendinitis issues on one foot this winter and haven’t been able to wear almost all my boots and booties. I’m just now getting to do that little by little. I bought these last year and loved them in both colors, although thectaupe is a true dark taupe, not beige like in the picture. This year they are all I’ve been able to wear that are stylish with still seeming to have a heel. They are so incredibly comfy. Mine are wide width, don’t know if you can find that now are not.
@BunsenBurner I have big calves and was pleasantly surprised to find that Zappos also sells wide shaft boots that fit me. You can search Zappos for those. Love Zappos!
Oh yes. Zappos and Nordstrom are the two websites she knows well.
I stopped at Nordstrom Rack today and tried on some NYDJ capri jeans (which come close to my ankles). They felt so good! I don’t know what it was - the fabric was maybe thinner and softer than other jeans I have, the waist was as high as I need it to be, there was no gap in the back (and I ALWAYS have a gap in the back!), so I bought them and will see how I like wearing them.
I also bought a couple of swing tops by Eileen Fisher. Stretchy, thick, substantial fabric. Pretty colors. I haven’t really shopped at this store before. I normally am very cheap, but am looking for a few nicer things for a trip.
Oh - and the shoes… Thank goodness the prices are reasonable! I found shoes I didn’t know I needed. lol. For me, the Sam Edelman flats fit well and are pretty comfortable. I haven’t splurged on Rothy’s, but know a woman who has knee/foot issues and she tried them and loved them so much she bought something like 11 pairs!
Yay! Looks like a successful shopping trip. I love Eileen Fisher cardigans.
I need help! I just purged my nineties pumps and put them in the Goodwill bag for someone to wear ironically. Am now in desperate need of advice for current versions. I live in jeans and black tops, have boots, booties, ballet flats. I’m looking for something polished but not fussy that’ll go with, for example, a below-knee pencil skirt and plain (probably black) top. I’d like a wide heel of maybe a couple of inches. Any suggestions for examples or sources?
Thank you!
