I don’t feel springy at all here in the Northeast. Our temps have been 50s max, and not very sunny. Once it’s in the low 60s, I’ll stop with the socks and wool sweaters and start to wear layers and lighter jackets. I was in Florida last week and it was gloriously hot! It was depressing to unpack and put the white jeans and sleeveless dresses in the closet for another two months.
@conmama I pulled out a pair today! It got up around 60 and after weeks and weeks of snow and frigid temps, they felt fantastic. Peep toe booties seem perfect for fall and spring.
Your outfit sounds perfect and very on season!
Sorry, I usually just read here.
Since I’m here, could anyone recommend a lightweight colored-pink, navy, or lavender- twill type jacket? Something that looks like a denim style but really thin. I teach and like to layer but denim gets too warm.
@drewsmom, I almost bought this because I was leaning towards a lighter weight jacket also. I just happened to find one I liked at Macy’s and decided I liked how it fit, but it is a lighter weight denim. But this is linen!
Glad to hear you broke out your booties! Looks like I’ll have to paint my toenails …ugh.
Your outfit sounds cute. We’ve been sick here for weeks and I’m feeling like it will be time for sandals the next time I leave the house.
We are only mid 40s now, so no springy clothes yet.
In Ca I consider 64 degrees still winter! Sunday was nice though and I put on shorts and went to the beach for two hours.
It has to be mid to high 70’s for me to break out my lighter weight clothing. I don’t really have spring clothing. I have cool weather clothes and warmer weather clothes. I’m not a spring color dresser. I guess summer to me is when I break out my linen.
I think I have another month or two before I need to think about painting my toenails.
@conmama I thought about your post this morning as I was deciding what to wear. I realize unless I’m wearing a dress I just pick a pair of jeans and a T-shirt. I vary my next layer depending on the weather but I don’t think in terms of an “outfit”. Today I looked at my closet with new eyes. I picked a pair of skinny jeans that have holes in the knees. I also picked a white top with embroidery on the front that I don’t wear often.I paired it with a pink tank underneath. Wore my Allbirds. I felt very spring like. To add to the spring feeling I took a walk with my H this afternoon and we saw about a dozen dolphins and a whale. Sound was aching but I’m glad I had a jacket. Car said 62 degrees, it got hot when you were in the direct sun but it was cold when the sun went behind a cloud.
@mom60, I bet you looked adorable. I’ve often struggled with casual put together looks, until I started following different bloggers for ideas. Most of them are much younger than I, or perhaps a different body type, but I really like how they put their clothes together and have gotten lots of ideas and purchased items they’ve shown.
My favorites are:

Style your Senses
So Heather
Hi Sugarplum
Brighton the Day
Living in Yellow

I find I don’t really seem to like the Fashion over 50 blogs, most are not my style. Does anyone have any other bloggers to share?
@conmama I like LIY. I also look at the motherchic but some of her stuff is too young for me.
I need a similar blog that does a little more business type attire but not suits etc. Just something besides jeans!
@surfcity, “Schaefer told me to” has a sister and she does a business dress using her sister as the model. The sister is actually the business gal. Some cute ensembles. Just go to her blog and at the top it will say Work Wear. When you click on that there will be several posts, you have to click on “keep reading” or something like that.
Shaeffer’s work wear posts are sponsored by Loft. But I do think they give some nice ideas of work wear. Even though I do not like Loft’s clothing. It’s called Connor’s work wear
I read many of the same blogs that @conmama does.
Not sure to put this here or in random questions
I have these jeans in a darker wash.https://shop.nordstrom.com/s/ag-the-legging-ankle-jeans-11-year-swap-meet/3753943?country=US¤cy=USD&mrkgcl=760&mrkgadid=3313964113&utm_content=33067517229&utm_term=aud-527756237976:pla-261165890548&utm_channel=shopping_ret_p&sp_source=google&sp_campaign=662927188&rkg_id=0&adpos=1o1&creative=145518898015&device=t&matchtype=&network=g&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI7fyi24SX4QIVgbfACh046gGAEAQYASABEgIst_D_BwE
I buy them at the AG outlet so I paid a lot less for them.
The hole at the knee of mine has grown and is now pretty large. Large enough that I don’t feel comfortable wearing them. Any suggestions on how to make the hole smaller? I love the fit of the pants otherwise.
@deb922 , you are the one who introduced me to so many! I can’t believe I went all these years without their help.
Has the hole torn more or just stretched our larger? I’d take to an alterations lady and have her sew it smaller if need and reinforce from the inside with denim sewed around the hole. This will help it from stretching or tearing further. I have a pair of jeans with a hole in the knees that’s doing the same thing…I just love these jeans. I’m having the issue of the threads tearing, too, from one side of the hole. I found some thin stretchy thread and YouTubed how to fix, it’s not quite the same, but holds it together. Then I sort of take the unfastened threads and put them through the and weave it thru the stretchy thread. Don’t know if that makes sense.
I like a few of those blogs but keep looking for some with a little bit older and heavier women.
Mom60, I would just sew the hole closed a bit at the ends from the back side of the fabric.
@conmama thanks for the jacket link, I’ll check it out.
@pyschmama have you seen themominstyle? I’ve read she wears a 14 but I’m not sure of her age. Definitely at least mid 30ish I think.
I wish there were more blogs from 40-50 women.
Well… one of our CCers has a wonderful blog that has middle age style woven into it.
(@Alumother - Your latest post… Hugs, I am so sorry…)
@psychmomma , I do pop into Fabulous After 40 sometimes. You might want to check hers out. There are many items I can’t wear from the younger bloggers, but I do like how they coordinate, then I use that. There are tons of things that Hi Sugarplum wears that are very loose fitting, but they hit her at the right spot as she’s shorter, so it doesn’t look as good on me. How tall are you? For instance she has this swing dress that is darling, but too short for me, doesn’t work. But it’s age appropriate if it’s your style. (She has her mother model various pieces, too).

Scroll down to the maxi and swing dressers.
Style at a certain age is a nice blog from an older blogger
50 is not old
She’s younger but Penny Pincher Fashion is pretty conservative
Over 50 feeling 40
use femme d’un certain age
Fabulous after 40
OMG, @deb922 …I am cutting you off! I just went to the Penny Pincher Fashion and within 5 minutes have purchased these shorts and it’s only 7:30 a.m.! It’s all your fault! Actually, I’ve been looking for a fancier pair like this that seem a little longer. I couldn’t find the inseam length, but it’s free shipping and return, so I’ll give them a try.
It says green apple, but I think it looks more beige. The olive says “khaki”, but maybe they got the names mixed up.
I look and feel better in shorts that are “skirt like” and flow. I don’t look good in skorts as they are typically A-line and don’t do my hips any favors. I always read that A-line is good for those of us with hips, but I think it accentuates it more on me,
I’m happy to enable
