Watching loved ones fade so they are very different from our treasured memories of them is painful. While it’s fortunate to have the fonder older memories, it is definitely bittersweet.
Overcome with a desire to buy shiny black penny loafers…
My condolences, @Alumother. The thought of losing one’s mom hits amongst one of the most painful. I wish you peace.
I do have a question…I was at Nordstrom Rack and found a pair of black lace pants that seem like they’d be a great item to have. They are straight leg which is a style that is flattering on me. We’re going to an event tonight “cocktail attire requested” and I thought the pants would be perfect. Well, I’ve tried pairing them with just about everything I can think of in my closet and nothing really looks good.
Any advice about how to wear lace pants? I’m under 5’3", have long legs, a high waist and a larger bust. So, I tend to feel best in straight or skinny pants and something looser on top that skims over my tummy. I may just need to return the pants but thought someone might have a suggestion for me.
@Alumother, big cyberhugs.
My sister and I are going through this stage with our mom - she is beginning to lose her identity to this disease. It is definitely very, very hard…
@collage1…do,you have a silky or satin camisole? Most colors would do. Those tend to blouse out.
I know it’s too late for tonight, but a top like this would look pretty.
@collage1 how about a plain silk tunic top:

@collage1 - your pants sound lovely. How about a silk top… would something like this work?

Speaking of jumpsuits…I found one I just loved and is forgiving on the tummy area. Where you ask? Why Target of course! Seriously! It looks much more expensive in person, a nice weight of fabric and sexy without revealing. It’s great for tall gals, but you can just hem it if shorter. Not expensive, $30, and the best part…no zipper! Just pull it down when nature calls! So attractive on, they have it in a black floral also. I’m wearing mine with silver blocked heel sandals.
@conmama, that is cute and a nice price. Hope you love wearing it!
Target does have some nice stuff. Their swim suit separates are good quality.
This is the exact DVF jumpsuit I bought and wore a few times. The short zipper is on the side and only up to the waistline. There is a row of hidden snaps from the zipper up to the armpit. The top can be easily taken down if needed but I never had to during my events.
Thank you for all the suggestions for tops to go with the lace pants. I’ll keep the pants and look for just the right flowy top…maybe one linked above. And I love the jumpsuit. For me, though, i try very hard to keep my days of needing a strapless bra to a minimum but, if that had full straps, I’d try it for sure.
I like halter-style dresses and tops for that same reason - easy to conceal bra straps. This convertible bra is amazing: it can be worn halter style, criss-cross, or just like a regular bra.

Marie Jo also makes a great strapless bra.
^^I wish…I am large busted and halter bras end up hurting my neck after a short time. I do like and am comfortable in sleeveless but my favorites are things that fully cover traditional bra straps.
Then you are wearing a wrong style/size bra. The straps are not intended to provide more than 5% of support. The majority of bra support is supposed to be provided by the band. The straps are there to make sure the band does not twist around (because it is not supposed to be super tight). You need to get measured at a boutique that specializes in higher end bras and carries a number of different brands. Then you can hunt for your favorites on sale online. This is what I did. I still swing by that boutique and buy one or two occasionally.
^^I have…
Keep looking!
I always avoided tops and dresses that required a strapless bra because I hated the feel, tugging and worry that went with wearing one. I saw so many recommendations for the Wacoal Red Carpet strapless that I decided to try it. Best strapless bra ever!!! It is so supportive and comfortable, I forget it is strapless.

It is a great strapless bra. I have a version of this one (and the Tom style). They are great.

@collage1 , what I love about the jumpsuit is that it has built-in cups! I also don’t like things up against the back of my neck, although I’ll occasionally wear a halter top, but with a strapless bra.
@my-3-sons …I discovered that bra three years ago and I love it! No more tugging up. I still don’t enjoy it as much as a regular bra, so generally look for tops that I wear for the day with them. But now at night or an occasional day, I love my Wacoal.
lol, I just went to pull out my strapless bra to check and it IS the Wacoal Red Carpet one. While it is the best one I’ve ever owned, I still don’t feel 100% comfortable. I’ll wear it to that once a year evening event but I always worry it’s slipping even if it’s not. And, after awhile, it feels like it’s digging in.I have not tried the Marie Jo bra.
