I’ve come to really like high waisted jeans. Despite being 5’7" and thin, I still struggle with muffin top when I wear mid-rise jeans. I love to wear white blouses and tee-shirts and high waisted jeans allow me to do that without love handles showing through the sheer color.
I only own one pair of high waisted jeans and they are so comfortable. But I have a long waist. My mid rise jeans aren’t horrible, but I have to wear a belt or they slide down and then there is that muffin top. I can’t believe I have a muffin top! It even shows with my underwear now.
For a while, I was eyeing these pants:

Here is a problem. These kinds of crops look great with heeled sandals as shown. Change what she is wearing to a flat shoe, and it would not look that great. Who wants to roam aroun in horribly uncomfortable footwear like that? Not me! ?
I think you can wear those pants with flats @BunsenBurner. I think a nude mule or slide would work. Or a wedge sandal. You see crops with wedge sandals all the time.
But to me, something nude to elongate the leg and not cut it off.
Madewell is showing their crops with flat footwear.
BTW, J Crew is having a good sale today. 50% off sale. If you sign up to be an “insider” free shipping and I think free returns. I ordered a couple of things at a great discount
Crop pants like the one BunsenBurner pictured are fine. What my eye isn’t used to, and maybe never will, is seeing flared crops. Those just look awkward.
I just bought these:

Of course, they are pictured with a heel. I will report if they look awkward or not - with a more sensible pair of shoes.
I love cropped flares and have had so many compliments on mine. They look great with a mule!
Well it took a couple years to get used to skinny jeans and I did, so I’ll never say never!
I just remember Tim Gunn saying that no woman should wear cropped pants.
No woman should wear pants that stop in the middle of the calf might be a better admonition. There is cropped that hits slightly above the ankle and then there is that totally unflattering mid calf length that is even more unflattering if it is tighter to the leg. Just my opinion.
That’s why they are styled with heels - to make the leg look longer so it does not look like they hit mid-calf. We shall see.
Even though I’m not a parent, I’d like to weigh in on this thread:
I see several people of all ages wearing hoodies & sweatpants to dress shirts & dockers. Family values may be at play because my mom always told us that we should look “presentable” back when I was in high school. A nice shirt/polo and pair of jeans/shorts. However, I always felt more comfortable dressing casually, mainly sweatpants during the cooler months.
Even though I still dress up here and there, I’d rather choose joggers over jeans. But once I get a better job after college, then dressing up is almost mandatory for certain jobs. Adults can still wear what they want, but from what I’ve heard, dressing your age is important, especially for first impressions.
I don’t remember where we were discussing blogs but Hi Sugarplum is a nice site.
I really like Hi Sugarplum! She just looks fantastic in every single thing she wears. I’d but more of what she models, but she 4” shorter than I am. So every skirt or pant that looks darling on her, well notnso much on me. But I get ideas of how to put colors and styles together from her. I also enjoy “Style Your Senses”.
Reporting on the pants:

On her, they are about 5-4 inches above the ankle. On me, they are slim ankle pants with a gentle flare at the bottom. I think I will keeep them.
@BunsenBurner cute pants. What are you going to wear them with?
For now, keds-like sneakers. Definitely not what she is wearing!
I experimented with the pants some more by pulling the leg up so the bottom of the lace woukd hit like it does on the model. Without a heel, it looks ridiculous. So if you are under 5’ 6", those pants would work as ankle pants (models are usually 5’ 10" or so). I will definitely wear them with sandals or espadrilles.
I would wear them with a flat. Just personal choice but I don’t care for heels with ankle or cropped pants.
Bought another Target jumpsuit that is so, so cute on. I don’t like it in the model at all. I tied it more firmly around the waist and made it slightly blousier. It’s great for tall girls if you want the shorter jumpsuit look because it’s still long. It would be a regular length looking jumpsuit on probably gals 5’4” or under. The green is not quite as faded out as the pic, will look cute with beige sandals. Anyway, worth taking a look if you’re interested. Like I said, the model isn’t doing it justice.
