Dressing Young (Part 1)

@mom60 I didn’t exercise heavily but did wear them on very hot days doing some heavy housework and never had trouble with itchiness. Their shirts were the first wool clothing I’d worn after years of avoiding it because it used to irritate my skin.

I have some nice lightweight wool T-shirt’s I bought this winter from Costco. They were $20 apiece in a range of colors.

I’d speak with your internist about blood tests to see if there’s a nutritional or possibly disease cause for your easy bruising. I bruise easily but not THAT easily. I generally have to bump or lean hard on something to bruise.

@deb922 I think that breeze top might be a good option.
@HImom I’ve had discussions with both my dermatologist and my internist and they both are in agreement that certain things cause me to bleed and bruise easily. Those include Flonase which I use to use regularly for allergies and when my vertigo acts up. If I use any cortisone cream for my excema flare ups I have to be really careful to wash it off my hands because if I touch my arms or hands it thins my skin. I also avoid Advil as it also tends to make it worse. It’s really only a problem on my hands and arms. I don’t have a problem elsewhere on my body.
@Midwest67 the dermatologist thinks it’s partly hereditary and part skin damage from all my years in the sun. I live in California and I’ve had a lot of sun exposure. She suggested I try Collagen peptides to see if that helps.
I don’t want to reach the point that I have to wear long sleeves. Added to the problem is that when I do bleed my wounds take a long time to heal. I find Tamanu oil from Tahiti seems to help me heal quicker.
I’m going to order the bamboo shirts as I always can use sun protection clothing. Will also look out for Ice Breaker brand tops.
I’m going to meet a friend tomorrow in a city with more shopping and will definitely hit the Lululemon store.

Icebreaker does make nice clothing—though sone I’d it IS a bit more expensive. I particularly love the wool thank tops as I use it as a base layer for traveling.

Columbia makes nice 50spf long sleeved shirts that are sun protective. I have several.

I’ve not heard of bamboo being sun protective. My dermatologist says physical barriers are always best in minimizing damage from UV.

I bruise easily too, probably from decades of oral steroids and nasal steroids.

I made it to the Lululemon store today. I ended up with two shirts.https://shop.lululemon.com/p/tops-long-sleeve/Sweat-Embrace-Long-Sleeve-MD/_/prod9090518
And the breeze style that @deb922 linked. I tried on the Run swiftly long sleeve that @BunsenBurner linked but I didn’t care for the tightness of the sleeves.
@HImom i agree that SpF clothing works great. I have a great men’s long sleeve button up Columbia sunshirt that I like to wear when I go sailing. Sort of like a coverup as I bought it pretty big. I bought it at Costco and it was a great deal. I also have several tops that have spf from Athleta that I wear on the boat but they are too thick for the gym.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions

@mom60 - I forgot to mention that Lulu’s men’s shirts in size S can be found at a good discount. They are quite nice and work for me!

@BunsenBurner I wish I had thought of that! Didn’t even look at the men’s. I’m going to try out one of my new shirts tomorrow.

Bummer! I wish I had remembered posting that prior to your trip! Fingers crossed your new shirt works for you!

The Swiftly long sleeved Lulus are made for giraffes- RICH giraffes! I have some and like them, but the tight sleeves are annoying.
I am a brand ambassador for Oiselle, and they have similar shirts that fit better, in my opinion. (I still wear Lulu, especially the Align pants/tights/shorts)

Loved the Sweat Embrace top from Lulu. It’s flattering on, loose enough that I don’t feel constricted. It is going to take some adjusting to wearing a sleeve to workout but this top is a great option. I had one woman ask me where I got it and she is going to order one. I liked it so much I just went online and ordered it in another color.

Do you have a “capsule wardrobe”?

@BunsenBurner DIdn’t Donna Karan make the concept of a capsule wardrobe a thing back in th e80s or so?

I am getting ready to pull the trigger on buying some Rothys. I have heard too many fabulous things about them and I could really use some flats for work that are comfortable. I don’t love the look of the regular flat, so I am thinking about the Point.

I love the loafer look too, but I have a similar pair for casual wear. Any thoughts on sizing up? My heel is narrow, as is my foot in general except for a bunion. Flat arches too.

I’ve had good luck buying fitness clothing, especially tops, at local thrifts shops. A nice new ARC store opened near me this spring. It has 50% of almost everything (except one “color” tag) on Saturday. I like being able to try a piece for a few dollars. If it doesn’t work out, no biggie - I can just redonate it.

Well, I guess I’m doing something right. I had breakfast yesterday with a biotherapeutics representative (we had met once before as well). During the course of the meal, he said, “You know, our age, I’m 47.” I said, “Well, I’m 61!” The guy was genuinely stunned. It made my day!

I was wearing a Lauren sheath dress, no makeup, bare legs and platform sandals.

@surfcity, not sure if this will help but I was in the Rothy’s store in SF last week and was surprised that I wore 1/2 size larger than my normal size in the pointy flat. I’ve never worn that size; in sandals or open toe shoes I size down from my normal size. I also really liked the sneaker and was my normal size in that style.

@surfcity I go up 1/2 size in the Rothy point. My older points are the same size as the round toed flats but I like having just that little bit extra room and they aren’t too big at all. I wear Rothy’s almost every day to work. They are a “thing” at our company. They are just so practical and comfortable (and cute).

@MomofWildChild - It’s fun when practical, comfortable shows are a “thing”

Well Tevas are now very stylish so that should make lots of people happy. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/29/style/teva-sandals.html

Love my Tevas! (multiple!)

Anyone wit wide feet try Rothys? The website claims they stretch and will accommodate wide feet. I like shoes and the ideal. The price seems a bit high for the material used, though.
