Dressing Young (Part 1)

Look for “new with tags” when buying from places like RealReal and other resells. I would not buy boots or closed shoes that were worn, but I don’t mind gently worn open sandals with soles that can be easily cleaned.

From The Real Real I’m willing to buy without tags. You are paying for their top notch authenticators and the used things I purchased have been in excellent condition. I have often bought things that are out of stock at retailers including my favorite Burberry coat.

I should have clarified that I was talking about shoes. I don’t trust worn boots and sneakers. Foot fungus is basically incurable, so why risk it.

Clothes - BFD. I wash or take my “new” loot to drycleaners.

@mom60 I have the Allbirds flats. I love, love, love them. They are a little more casual even than Rothy’s, but great for travel. I am usually a 7 1/2 in most brands of street shoes (8 1/2 running shoes) and got an 8 in these flats and they are perfect. The website must have said to size up or I wouldn’t have done that. Looks like my other Allbirds are also 8s.

Thanks @MomofWildChild. I just ordered them in marine. Ordered both the 6 1/2 and the 7. My sneakers are a 7 but I have a bit of room in the toe. My lifestyle is casual so flats, sneakers are a staple of my closet. Next purchase will be a new pair of slip on sneakers. I have an old pair from when Ugg had the I heart Ugg line that I love.
I will report that my D gave me her pair of the wool Hoka Hupana. I wanted to love it but it’s just okay. It doesn’t have a wool insole like the wool Allbirds so you need to wear a sock. I might try the knit Hoka Hupana next. My D reports they are very comfortable for wearing with jeans.
I’ve never tried ordering used clothing. My sister has been doing Rent the Runway and has enjoyed renting things she couldn’t afford or items that she wouldn’t wear a lot but likes.

Lol. Too many birdy shoes?

Comes up at the top of Google search for “allbirds flats.” Hmmm… talk about that likelihood of confusion thing.

I have two pairs of the M.Gemi slip-on sneakers (The Cerchio). I wear them to/from yoga, Pilates, etc. They are really well made and comfortable—wore them on a long flight to Hawaii.

I’m thinking of increasing my shoe collection? Any good shoes that you would recommend? I’m a guy so please don’t recommend me any flats or heels.

Every guy I know swears by Ecco shoes for business casual wear.

My S likes the Allbirds, if you’re searching for something casual, light and fun. I believe this is the style he has. He bought it on eBay, gently used for 30-50% off new.

@BunsenBurner @HImom Thanks for the advice. Those shoes look really nice.

Do you know any good chelsea boots that you would recommend to buy?

One of my dresses arrived! Really love the stretchy fabric. Add a blazer or cardigan, and it is perfect business casual outfit. Add a denim jacket, and it is perfect for a casual dress day.

Can anyone recommend a denim jacket? Not too pricey, but the sort that would look good with BunsenBurner’s dress.

I might own a couple in different colors. This is by far my favorite.

A little shrunken, stretchy and the right amount of distress I have it in the sweet

I like Madewell jean jackets, too.

@mathmom I have this one and really like it. Great price point right now - with code FIREWORK it’s 50% off. It’s midweight and has some stretch to it. Unless they have changed the fabric content - mine is a couple years old. Has very good reviews:

I have to say that I recently bought a pair of Madewell’s high waisted jeans and I love them so much. They have stretch but I don’t have to pull them up all the time. And the pocket placement is good and flattering. They are what I call expensive/moderately priced but worth it. I like them better than jeans that are more money and definitely better than jeans that I’ve bought that are less.

Madewell are my “go to” jeans. I particularly like the high waisted skinny, but have other models as well.

Great jacket, @deb922 ! And nicely priced, too.

Here is a cute one (slightly cropped and fitted, not boxy) which I am eyeing:

A side note… the RealReal’s IPO was UNREAL. ? Anybody watch it open for trading today? The CEO was asked if her business was Pets Dot Com of today. She responded that a lot have changed in the two decades… no one could shop from a mobile phone back then. True.
