Dressing Young (Part 1)

I have had good luck with basics from Everlane. I think the cropped or shrunken style will look best with a dress.

I like both Jean Jackets, but abasket’s price range is more my style. I’ve been meaning to get one for years.

I’ve been wanting to get a denim jacket but I just don’t feel like it’s my style. I’d want one that’s a looser fit but all the ones I’ve found so far seem tight and make me look weird wearing it.

I found a cute jean jacket and a nice white linen jean-style jacket at TJMaxx earlier this year. I like how jean jackets look when the sleeves are turned up. For me, this is the best look - maybe my arms are short?

I love the look of a jean jacket but hate wearing one. I like my clothing loose on the top half of my body. I’ve been guilty of buying tops that my friends tell me are the wrong size. It’s something I’m working on. I feel constricted in a jean jacket even one with stretch. My youngest just found a nice one though at Nordstrom Rack.
@Bromfield2 those slip ins look really nice. I have to think twice about spending that amount on a pair of slip on sneakers. I shouldn’t though as I’d spend that on a dress shoe that I’d wear once but think twice about spending it on a shoe I’d wear weekly. How does the sizing run compared to other brands? I’m waiting on a pair of slip on shoes that my son ordered for me as a late Mother’s Day present , he works for a shoe company.
@BunsenBurner that’s a great dress. Nice in that it looks like it can be dresses up or down.
I love where I live but miss having a nice variety of shopping. My shopping goals this summer are to get to an area to venture in a MadeWell store(never been) plus a big Anthropologie and a Athleta.

I love this linen, jean-style jacket from Tommy Bahama for summertime. It isn’t as constricting as some denim jackets and certainly not as heavy, which is perfect for Florida living. The raw edge makes it seems more contemporary to me. I have it in black, but it comes in a multitude of colors, and I’d like to have another one or two. I’ve been eyeing the natural linen color. The sleeves are a bit long on me, but because the fabric is not bulky, it’s very easy to roll them up - much easier than denim.

We had a style consultant speak to us at work and she said women should almost always fold up the sleeves of jean jackets and tailored shirts. Men should roll he shirt cuffs up. (Business Casual)

@mom60 - there is plenty of shopping downtown Seattle! I was browsing the stores yesterday just because… Allsaints had a cute flowy top that would have been perfect with leggings, but apparently many others had the same idea - there was only size XL left. Ended up in Nordstrom and walked out with 2 plisse skirts. Asked Mr. which one he liked best, and he replied that he liked them both! Okay, both will stay.

I am thinking about getting the Lewit sweater shown with the skirt. Not a fan of how the Vince skirt is styled.

@mom60. My Kut from the Kloth denim jacket is the only one I’ve ever had that I don’t find constricting.

I would like to find a blue denim jacket (so jean color, not white or black…) that is very lightweight - almost like a shirt but in a jacket form. I too don’t always do well with jackets in general feeling constricted.

@abasket - I found a Current/Elliott denim shirt that is super soft and looks like a denim jacket. The fabric is thicker but feels very lightweight. It is about 10 years old now, so probably not sold anymore. Going to wear it tomight with my polka dot skirt and a black tank top.

Found a similar looking shirt:

I have a couple of shirts like that from Madewell, too. They do make good jackets!

I have a denim shirt that is a thick gauzy chambray made by Joe’s Jeans. It has snap buttons and can be worn as a blouse but I use it like others would wear a denim jacket. I wear it open with the sleeves rolled up over sleeveless dresses or T-shirt’s with jeans.

Call me picky or weird but I don’t wear button down shirts -at all! Don’t own one! I just need a really lightweight - summer weight - jean jacket - that looks in everyway like a jacket but is very lightweight! I’ll find it!

I like the ones posted but not for me.

I recently bought this women’s chamois shirt and love it. It’s just the right weight for temperature changes and provides a little something to keep the A/C chill off. Actually, I liked it so much I bought 2 in white and 1 in blue. I brought the blue on one a trip with us and it has been useful as a light jacket or shell. I like that it has some body but is softer than a denim jacket.

@abasket The Kut from the Kloth Arielle jacket is the one I have. It is the only one I have ever found that is this light and unrestricting. https://shop.nordstrom.com/s/kut-from-the-kloth-arielle-frayed-denim-jacket/5222172 . If you hunt the internet you can find it in a darker wash too. I love it so much I have it both in a light and dark wash.

Actually I think the dark is at Nordstrom too. For some reason they don’t list it by name. https://shop.nordstrom.com/s/kut-from-the-koth-unhemmed-denim-jacket/4814263?origin=coordinating-4814263-0-2-PDP_1-recbot-also_viewed&recs_placement=PDP_1&recs_strategy=also_viewed&recs_source=recbot&recs_page_type=product&recs_seed=5222172

I think one reason I don’t love jean jackets is that I like my jackets to have pockets. I’m not sure why I have that urge with jackets when I don’t have it with sweaters.
I have a jean style jacket that is crisp cotton but it has stretch panels on the sides. It makes it feel less constricting. The brand is XCXI.

I like cropped jackets because they leave my dress pockets easily reachable.

@BunsenBurner I have a denim shirt in my closet that looks just like that. I think it dates back to the 70s!
