Dressing Young (Part 1)

I bought all the slight bell sleeves, 3/4 length. I love them!! Every once in a while a style comes back that fits my shape, style, personality- and that’s one of those things for me. Aging hippie maybe.

Slight bell sleeves 3/4 length are fine. It is the large or long ones that I think are ridiculous.

@deb922 I’m just realizing your leopard sweater is the same one one of my favorite decorating blogger wears all the time - and she links to it because everyone wants it!

Are you a famous decorating blogger??!! :wink:

I realized it was the same because she was wearing it yesterday in her Instagram stories and I had just seen your post!

Question for all of the dressing young crowd.

I bought this blazer recently https://athleta.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=350837002&cid=1138285&pcid=49994&vid=1&grid=pds_4_57_1#pdp-page-content

It was pretty affordable, extra 20% off promotion plus I had reward money

It’s longer on me, more tunic length. Fits very close to the body and looks really nice on. The problem? The jacket doesn’t close! It’s by design, it’s not supposed to close. I can’t decide if that is going to drive me crazy, I’m on the fence.

So would it bother you to have a blazer that doesn’t close? Should I keep looking?

Nice blazer! I love Athleta pieces.

I guess I would sort of look at this like a cardigan that stays open. Do you wear those?

When you wear blazers what % of the time do you button up? Maybe that gives you a clue how much you’re fight the feeling of having it open.

I never close my blazers. I like them better open. Shows off your top, jewelry, gives a better overall look, IMO. I agree with @abasket , look at it as more a cardigan.

The fabric is very nice, good choice!

I’ve had some things like that and it does annoy me a little, but they look nice!

@deb922 , does the jacket cut away from your body? Not as much material in front? If it’s that, then I know what you might be asking, in that it bothers you. I do tend to shy away from those cuts of jackets, but I like the looks of them.

@deb922

IMO, the cut of the jacket & lack of closure makes it look more on trend & youthful.

I like it!

Thanks for the opinions. @conmama, I’m not sure how to explain it but maybe that’s it. It cuts away from the body and kinda pulls away.

I have another black jacket but it has bracelet sleeves. They always look to me like I need to pull down my sleeves. But when I tried it on today, it doesn’t close either. But it doesn’t have as wide an opening as the Athleta one.

I think I’m going to keep the jacket. It’s really flattering on. I like the longer length and think I will get a lot of use. It’s nice and thin which is nice here in the north where I like a jacket but need a heavy coat 6 months a year. A coat fits nicely over.

@deb922 , I like jackets that skim the waist. I actually had my alterations lady do that to a black jacket I have. I also find them flattering.

On Apple News feed, I saw a pic of Katie Holmes (?) wearing a white blouse with big puffy shoulders and big puffy sleeves.

She looked like the blouse was swallowing her whole.

Pretty sure I had something similar in 1980, complete with ruffles & high waisted jeans.

No can do this time around Fashion Gods.

I just read some article discussing 80’s trends that are coming back. The one that I’m crossing my fingers for are sheer black hosiery. In the winter, wearing a short cocktail dress, they look much nicer on aging legs! I did see Gwen Stefani on a talk show a month ago wearing sheer black hose with her outfit.

Another one was slouchy white socks with sneakers. I always liked that look, even just regular white above the ankle socks. I think it gives a slimming effect to one’s legs.

@conmama

You mentioning slouchy white socks brought a flood of happy memories for me! I remember wearing those with penny loafers, of all things, in the early 80s. It was part of the mens wear look.

And yes, LOVE sheer black hose.

@Midwest67 , whenever I think of menswear look, I think of Julia Roberts in “My best Friend’s Wedding”, when she was wearing that suit.

I would love sheer black hose to make a comeback. I used to wear them alot in the 80s, and probably into the 90s. My pale legs and saggy knees look much better covered up.

Omg I just spent a ton of money on a dress. I love sweater dresses this time of the year. I have been looking everywhere for a ribbed dress… found one at our Nordstrom. I ordered it online while sitting at the Nordy bar having a glass of wine. By the time I finished my wine, I got an email that the dress was downstairs for pickup. I fetched it and went to the bus stop. That is my kind of shopping! ?

I see quite a few folks wearing black sheer hosiery. I have a couple form Wolford.

Boy, Bunsen- that’s efficiency!

@BunsenBurner share the dress please. I’m looking for a new sweater dress.
