@BunsenBurner I love that jacket! Looks a little long for me, i may just stop at the mall today and try it on.
I am 5 feet with shoes on, hard to buy stuff. Everything looks so good on tall people, on me, it’s a hit and miss

We do carry-on… but my roller-bag is fairly large, and I also take a backpack that fits under the seat (and tuck a small purse in it). I do take a lot of shoes. I’m not into high fashion, but I like to have a variety of comfy shoes and something dressy too.
The carry-on is especially helpful on trips with a lot of “set changes” (like Europe tours). But we’ve gotten to like the convenience for all trips, even when we have option of free bag check.
We recently went to Hawaii and stayed in a condo with a washer and dryer for a week. All we needed was a couple of dresses for me, a couple of aloha shirts and a pair of shorts for Mr., sandals, swimsuits (and a coverup for me), workout shorts and shirts, athletic shoes and socks, and two changes of undies. Brought packable windbreaker jackets, but we never used them. Ditto many fancier shoes I brought or extra shirts and dresses. I am now rethinking my packing strategy for longer trips (6 plus days) to Hawaii.
We prefer to pack lightly and it works pretty well for us. My kids are excellent light packers.
My kids are also excellent light packers. When we went to Europe after DS’s college graduation, they got use backpacks. That enabled DD to swoop up from behind to graciously help me get my very heavy carry-on roller up/down the bridge/stairs in Venice.
I want to point out that bloggers (influencers) do not as a rule pack lightly. It’s their job to photograph themselves in various outfits to sell the items they are wearing. They pack more clothes to generate more income. They may even have a sponsored post on vacation, which means that they are photographing certain items from a certain brand or store for pay. They pack more makeup because they are always being photographed.
So yes, a blogger will not pack lightly because every trip generates income. And taking photos in various locations is a big part of the bloggers job.
It’s a crazy job. But every trip that you see on Instagram is basically a business trip (that is expensed like a normal business trip) with some pleasure on the side.
Very good point @deb922 as much as we would like to think they are just a girl next door, our neighbor, whom we can relate to, they are first a sale person, a person with a job to make a living. Nothing wrong with that, it’s just easy to forget that.
@conmama - love the leopard booties! Glad you got them!
I can carry on for ten days IF I do not need to have any dressy clothes. I do wear makeup, but I streamline the lotions and potions of my nighttime face routine when traveling. Whether or not I carry on depends on the destination and how cute I want to look when I get there.
I got much better about traveling light when we lived in the UK for two years. I try to embrace a color palette and capsule wardrobe concept when I travel. That is a bit easier for me in the cooler months for some reason.
I am not a fan of doing laundry on a trip. I definitely take enough underwear for each day, but I generally pack older ones and might toss half of them on the trip after wearing them.
The coatigan is back in stock. I couldnt help myself and ordered it, $50 plus shipping.
Eta I just looked again and now only in small an XXL. I ordered an hour ago and all sizes were avail
Thanks @CottonTales …glad you were able to snag it 50% off. They run true to size. If you are a size 4 or 6, a small will fit you well.
Is it more like US small or more like EU small? I am consistently M-L in EU, and XS-S in US sizing.
It’s US small. I’m a medium…always. And the medium was perfect.
It’s worth trying I would say.
If I see someone in that coatigan I’m going to be guessing if it’s someone from CC.
I would order the Lululemon jacket but I’ve spent so much money on myself already this December. My D has a 25% off coupon through mid January but it’s only good at a specified pop up.
Lol, @mom60 !
Thanks, @conmama. I forgot that there is a loft downtown. Plan on doing some shopping tonight after work.
The coatigan stories have me smiling. So cute!
@conmama, i havent been under a size L for a decade!
My work world and my fashion life just intersected. I get a magazine at work called Stores (I know- you are all jealous…). I was flipping through it and there is a feature article on AllBirds! It is an interview with the Head of global retail operations. It was fascinating- covers how they are deciding where to put their physical stores, how they refuse to stray from their focus on simple materials and be very sustainable, and how they require everyone who works there to work the front desk and greet corporate guests. They sell really well in SF (have opened a 2nd store) and Atlanta is big.
I think their store could do well in Seattle (or U Village or Bellsqare on the Eastside)!
I wore my coatigan for the first time last night! I had bought a thin sweater to wear underneath from Loft at the same time but didn’t like it in person. I happened to find an older charcoal gray thin Loft sweater from several years ago in my closet that matched perfectly. Wore it with black leggings and boots. Met some friends for dinner and shopping “midnight madness” event in our downtown area. Got compliments from both friends!
I normally wear a medium in Loft because I find their tops to be a little tight on my upper arms. The way the coatIvan is cut, I think I could have actually gotten away with the small but at this point decided to just keep the medium (and the sleeves in the small might’ve been too tight with something underneath).
I often find myself buying a lot of clothes for myself this time of year due to the sales. So as I was leaving last night, dh says to me, “Nice outfit. Christmas gift to yourself?” I had to point out that the only new thing I was wearing was the coatigan, and at $30, a bargain! And it was purchased with a gift card my mother gave me LAST Christmas! ?
My charcoal gray sweaters for under the coatigan arrived yesterday and I’ll keep two of the three (Macy’s was having a great sale and it was hard to tell what would work). So I plan to wear the outfit at the first opportunity – probably tomorrow night. I’ll pair the tops with black pants and booties.
Since I live in CA, I can wear it at night…two of my D’s who are home from the east coast right now, commented that the coatigan style is really only a fall or spring option as they’d be too cold in the winter and a coat/jacket would be too hard to wear over it.
And I’m most often a medium but the reviews for the coatigan led me to purchase a small and it fits perfectly. Excited about my new outfit!
