Ohhh, I like those even better @BunsenBurner . I can’t tell if I can remove the insole or not, I’ll need to read more. But I put them in my amazon cart in case they do and I can order. My feet are so funky.
I finally broke down and bought Vionic slippers. Been wearing for a day and they’ve made quite the difference.
With dresses, I like Bunsen’s option. I think the no laces makes them “less” sneakers and more easy to work with dresses, pants, shorts or whatever. Would also be comfy on the plane and easy on, easy off.
No laces makes them less young imo. I think they are cuter with laces + dresses. Without laces + dresses looks like you tried to get something that would look good with dresses but didn’t quite hit the mark.
Kids can get away with vans that don’t have laces but they start to look like old people shoes on adults.
A pair of white slip on sneakers, as long as it does not look as grandfather’s galoshes, looks good and stylish with knit t-shirt dresses and denim dresses. That Ecco would fit the bill. I personally dislike shoe laces. Hassle, and they can get dirty quickly.
@conmama I love your original choice. I think those will be really cute with dresses. For walking, I prefer laces in case they need any adjustments tighter or looser. The van type shoes I’ve had sometimes loosen up or don’t grip my heel enough.
This might sound odd but I think it also depends on what kind of dresses you’re wearing them with. For instance, call me crazy, but if I picture even a more casual dress that is knee length or a little longer the sneakers with laces would look “old”.
If the dress was just above the knee, sneakers with laces, not so “old” looking. But I still prefer WITH dresses, sneakers without laces.
Well, here are some examples of dresses with sneakers. Granted some of these dresses are quite short but many are not. Now these women ARE young, but I think their styles look great!!
Thanks all! The length of my dresses are above the knee, about 2 to 3 inches. I’ve never worn slip on sneakers, so I need to try them on, but I can see where they might slip off. I do like my original sneakers, too. I have never worn sneakers with dresses, it will be a first if I do wear them.
So funny I was thinking the same way about the white sneakers even though they are trending. So I texted my fashion savvy daughter and she said, “Don’t give any weight to other people’s opinions and naturally you’ll rock the look if you love what you’re wearing!” From the mouth of babes…
I like the link @abasket. I’ve worn sneakers with a dress a lot when I’m traveling. Most of my dresses and skirts are above the knee. I’ve got both slip on sneakers and laced styles. I have a pair of navy blue converse all stars that I wear with a longer dress. Those sneakers were left behind by my daughter when she moved out. I wore my Allbirds with a skort a lot last summer. My last Europe trip I wore a pair of Nike knit shoes. They weren’t a chunky style, definitely not a shoe you would wear for athletics.
I’m not yet a fan of the chunky athletic shoe with a dress or skirt. I follow on Instagram a brand my son does marketing for and they are showing chunky hefty looking sneakers with dresses. I have an older acquaintance who wears running shoes with long skirts. She joked that she is now in style.
One issue to be aware of with some of the sneakers is that they have a flat sole with little arch support. For example the Converse All Stars have no support and I wouldn’t want to walk hours in them.
@conmama your choice is super cute! I went to Europe last summer and took some cute suede trendy pale pink reeboks and wore them with my dresses, at times. However, a flat white tie sneaker like you have chosen would have looked better, and especially in Italy, it seemed like everyone (adults and teens) were wearing that style of sneaker (although most were Adidas like @BunsenBurner burner posted). I also have some foot issues and Superga and Ecco, mentioned upthread, are also good comfy brands but like you, what mattered to me was what was comfy with my inserts!
Well, the sneaker I posted arrived and looked really clunky. I might try a smaller size just to see, they were comfy though. I found these at Nordstrom Rack and they are cute. Not wide width, but fit a wider foot. More youthful on. The Naturalizer Morrison looked more orthopedic. I’m still looking. I do find that the lace less shoes make my feet look like canoes.
