No! There is not need to go the dowdy route! Do not buy the brown skirt if you do not love it! Thus sayeth mafool.

mafool - thanks for the Cabi link. Cute stuff. I may have to go in search of a party ;)

toneranger - I just discovered this catalog/website for tall women [Long Tall Sally | Tall Women’s Clothing - Tall Shoes and Tall Clothing for Tall Women](http://www.longtallsally.com/) . actually, they found me ;)

I don’t always look for tall clothes. I am 5’10’ with average length legs - all my height is in my torso so it is very hard to find shirts, jackets, bathing suits, etc that fit properly. I make do and avoid certain styles (those cropped jackets look ridiculous on me!). I just received my first order from LTS and I am pleased with the quality. the sizing is a little off - almost everything is big on me (and not because I have stuck faithfully to my diet!) so I will be exchanging.

Toneranger - you just made me laugh aloud.

Hey - you may have problems with your knees, but I have a LOT of extra skin on my elbows. My arms are really very slim, but there is this elephant-textured stuff on the elbows that is really ugly. Sometimes my DH likes to pinch it. Sometimes I like to punch my DH.

I often think, a surgeon could just clip it off and I would have plenty to spare. Not to long ago, my dad, who is 83 and looks like Spencer Tracy was standing in a short sleeve shirt and son of gun, I realized our elbows were identical. I guess I should just be happy I don’t look like Spencer Tracy.

I will not get the brown skirt!

Thanks PRJ for the link. There are some possibilities there! Some cute flats too. So if I order, I’ll go a size down…that will feel good!

I’m 5’12 (heh heh) with long legs but the “tall” pants I’ve bought in the past have been WAY long (by 2-3 inches!). Yet, most regular pants are too short.

Also, there used to be a tall shop near us. I walked in one day…yikes…the clothes were awful and overpriced. So I usually stick with good brands and then have my tailor take out the hems.

WIP…my mom had the fat pads on the knees. We all have our little curses. We just need to work around them. Black tights work for me in the cool weather…but I get self conscious with the “bare leg” look. My elbows are reasonably OK. Even so, I like those 3/4 sleeves!

I’m 5’7" and have the same problem. I have bought several pair of casual pants from LLBean of all places because they sell some styles in a “medium tall” length that works for me.

I can’t like blogs - but I’m having great fun at Ari Seth Cohen’s Advanced Style blog. Great inspiration and way better than red hats!

That medium tall is perfect for me too. I can’t figure out how my legs can have the same inseam as my son who is 6" taller than me.

I hate my knees.

Interesting thread.

I LOVE dressing young, which in my case means dressing like a 9-year old boy from the 1960’s – in dungarees and sneakers. But, since baggy dungarees are generally not cool for 48-year old moms to wear out and about, I am still looking for jeans that fit well. I find that the pants from Bean and Lands End tend to run too long in the crotch. I was sure that one of the new fit styles from Eddie Bauer would work well, but same deal there. Old Navy jeans are too low in the back and always too big in the hip. I have a couple pairs from Gap that are merely OK. Am still looking for that perfect comfy pair. I miss having a waistline, which doesn’t help matters either. In the old days if I gained weight it was generally in my thighs. Now it’s my stomach. bleh.

I swear by Levis jeans, for basics, and Seven for all Mankind for dress, or Goldsign for trouser jeans. That’s for someone of average height and weight, but also long waisted. YMMV.

Hmm. Thanks. Think Kohls carries Levis.

I got a pair of KUT jeans based on a recommendation here. Dark, sort of “skinny” jeans. Perfect length and very slimming. Love em.

I live in the burbs of NY and still haven’t heard of most of these brands, but will look – maybe places like Marshalls or TJ Maxx? There’s a NY & Co jeans place that was touted as having jeans that fit EVERY woman. May try to head over there one of these evenings.

Levis also has a good online store. You could order 3-4 different pair, try them on in the comfort of your own home:), and return the ones that don’t work…

hey, I got my KUT jeans on Amazon…which has free shipping and returns on these products. Some are on sale right now. I bought a pair of cotton twill khakis for spring today…only 37 bucks!

LOVE this thread

lspf72, love the look you described - dungarees and sneakers! That’s me on a daily basis.

D2 laughs whenever I tell her I should start dressing my age. She still borrows a few pieces from me (a few tops, dresses; but really, mostly accessories <<one size fits anyone, haha!) and loves to pick stuff out for me when we shop. D2 is of the opinion that some items of clothing can be worn by a woman whether she’s 17 or 47 - like boots or blazers.

Which is GREAT, because I do love wearing boots of any kind, with skinny jeans and sometimes with a dress. I will probably have to stop wearing my shorter denim skirts though. It just doesn’t feel right anymore, heh. Going into my 50s though I will probably still want my skinny jeans and boots, and adapt more longish tops, like blazers and cardis that go to mid-thigh, or those longer t-shirts that are the greatest thing since sliced bread.

My fear is that when D2 goes away to school in the fall, there goes my in-house stylist, and I’ll start trading comfort for style. Will probably start making D2 put my outfits together for me via Skype.

toneranger, is this the one you like?

How do the sizes run compared to other brands?

Yes, I’m pretty sure those are the ones! I ordered my regular size and they worked fine. Although the inseam doesn’t seem right - mine were about 34 inches… but they work great cause I’m tall.
I ordered mine off Amazon and got free shipping.

Good to know. There’s a Nordstrom not far from here. Trying on jeans is no fun after putting on about 10 lbs of ‘hibernation weight’ this winter but it will be good motivation!

Also check out David Kahn jeans while you are at Nordy’s:

[David Kahn Jeans at B. Ellen](http://www.shopbellen.com/David%20Kahn.htm)

(They are pricey, but can be had for $50-60 at NR)

Jeans sizing is all over the place. Depending on the brand, I wear size 4, 6, or 8. (For the brand that fits me in a size 4, I have to wonder what truly thin women do? They would have to wear a size -2)

Mafool -

Believe it or not, it’s a size “00” or double zero. Jeans meant only for those with the skinniest of thighs.
