Dropping math - taking by correspondence

The school year is coming to an end, but this current marking period grade could possibly sink my cumulative grade down to a D+. I won’t find out my grade until the end of this week, but if I get a D+, my GPA is shot to hell, and a D just looks terrible. Even if I don’t get a D+ cumulative, I’m sure I’ll get a C-. I have the option of dropping the course and taking it by correspondence and getting an A or B in the course, which would be factored into my GPA, while the dropped course would not. The course would still show on my transcript and say that I withdrew - but it could have been at any point in the year.

I missed a lot of math due to illness, but my teacher seems to think that I sit at home and watch TV during math class, so she has been really harsh with me lately. My counselor thinks that I should keep the (possible) D+ on my transcript and take the correspondence, in addition. I really don’t know what to do, I’m going insane, and I have until Thursday to decide. Any advice?
