Dual Credit

Hi! I was recently informed that at some colleges if you go into a fine arts major your dual credit credits won’t transfer over. I’m currently a junior in high school wishing to go into film and I’ve already taken three dual credit classes. I was going to continue, but I was wondering if anyone has had this problem and if there is a way to work around it or am I just wasting my money with the dual credit?

You point out yourself - “some colleges.” It depends on the school. Look at the policy for specific schools you might be interested in.

It’s likely that your dual-credit courses won’t transfer all that easily anyway. I want to be a math major and several colleges have told me my courses from a state university won’t transfer for various completely arbitrary reasons. (Luckily, they’re free in my state.) It’s best to go into it assuming stuff won’t transfer.

It’s especially unlikely that your courses will transfer if:

 • you’re trying to transfer them to an OOS school or a private school
 • they were taken in a high school building and taught by a high school teacher
 • they appear on your high school transcript
 • they were used to meet graduation requirements
