It’s interesting to me how radical they both became after the birth of the first child. How did two people drink that kool-aid together…but I contend Michelle was merely the vessel and the older cinderella daughters did the actual raising of the younger children. I’ve said for years she sounds completely brain washed.
Can you imagine your husband presenting this idea to you, and going for it?
How hard is her life, really? She’s a sort of queen of the hive.
But what’s going to become of this family now that Michelle has stopped having babies? The older “children” are growing up and moving away (well, except for 25-year-old Jana, and who knows why that is). In 10 years or so, there will only be a few children left at home with only Michelle to actually raise them. And once they’re gone, what will Michelle do with herself all day?
Maybe she’ll come on CC and talk about the empty nest.
Chances are the kids will just have lots of kids and chances are, many will live nearby so there will always be someone (and little ones) around. Heck, I could see JB creating a Duggar compound on their land!!! Instead of “Tiny Houses” - it would be “Twenty Houses”!!! 
I wonder how Grandma Duggar is doing through all this. She has seemed in the past to me to be a little more “normal”. Wonder if she WANTED to move in with them or if she felt she needed to - or what???
He said they have enough acreage for each kid to build a home.
My impression is that their religious belief system evolved over time - and was greatly influenced by that early experience with birth control pills and a miscarriage. If you see pictures of Michelle as a teen - she looks completely normal and had several boyfriends. She did not believe in premarital sex - but she and JimBob did kiss before their wedding day. Jim Bob seems to have crafted his extreme beliefs over time.
When he ran for office - that’s when it really started looking crazy to me. There is a picture where Michelle and the 3 or 4 girls they had at that time were all wearing matching dresses that looked like Pilgrim costumes - and the boys matched as well - it was so Stepford Wives you might have mistaken it for a family Hallowen photo
There was a special aired shortly before the Josh craziness happened (seems like it was around the wedding specials) where the whole family was gathered, and Jim Bob was joking about how Michelle used to mow the lawn in her bikini when she was in high school. He managed both to leer at her and try to tell the girls how not to behave. The kids all just looked like they had no idea how to process the idea of their mother in a bikini when they have to keep all their parts covered at all times!

I’m not saying that mowing the lawn in a bikini is typical for my neighborhood - but her comments about causing men to have struggles based on her clothing choices is very outdated thinking.

OMG @rockvillemom - I had to laugh when I read about Michelle wearing a bathing suit while mowing the lawn!
I have desperately needed a new bathing suit for several months now - we have a swimming pool in our backyard, and often times in the summer, if I am doing yard work, I will put on my bathing suit, with shorts on top and go about my work. When I get hot, I’ll jump in the pool, cool off, then get back to work.
When was looking at suits today, I decided to try on a tankini top (with built-in bra) and a skirt bottom. I’d never tried on a skirt bottom before, but thought to myself, if it doesn’t look half bad, I could forego the shorts, and just do my yard work in my bathing suit! I realize I’m not a teenager (far from it), but if someone wants to watch me and ‘have struggles’, well there’s so much more wrong with them than having struggles! Granted, it’s not a bikini, but the idea (of the Duggars) that any woman in a bathing suit (on a beach) would cause her sons to need to avert their eyes is beyond ludicrous.
Their neighbors probably hated her because she was setting a horrible example by doing ‘men’s’ work and the women didn’t want their husbands to get any ideas!
My paternal great grandmother had 15 children who lived to adulthood. 12 of them were boys! Thank goodness for contraceptives.
All I can think is that Jim Bob must be some kind of perv himself if he doesn’t think any man can control themselves around a woman. That being said we were out on our boat this summer and d brings a guy friend who I figure out has a crush on her. She is ready to go skiing and tosses off her cover up to reveal and old, and teeny bathing suit. I have to admit I threw a towel over her as soon as she got back up on the boat.
Yes - all of these creepy ideas originate with Jim Bob - probably says a lot about HIS issues. The scenes where he counsels his children about physical relationships while courting or prior to marriage - just make my skin crawl. My guess is that the family philosophy that females must dress very modestly and that it is their fault if a male sees them and becomes aroused all stem from him. Just a short step to blaming female victims of sexual violence for bringing it on themselves based on their clothing.
It says in the link about Michelle being a cheerleader that she and Jim Bob “got physical” before marriage. (Whatever that means.) So why won’t they let their children do the same thing?
I think Jim Bob’s got a screw loose for trying to control everyone the way he does. And I think he must have used some form of blanket training on Michelle to keep her so submissive.
I think the article was trying to make Michelle sound wilder than she was. But it does sound like a fairly normal teen experience - attending school, being a cheerleader, several boyfriends, etc. All things her girls are forbidden from doing. I have the same question - how did she transition to this meek, whispering shadow of a woman?
Jim Bob somehow did a number on her head. I wonder what her family of origin thinks about him.
