Duke ED Class of 2020 Applicants Discussion Thread

no, interview is really a minor part of you admission process…
that is why it is optional

Are CSS profiles randomly checked off, or is there some significance to it. I live in the U.S and it hasn’t been checked off.

@keyjewel Interviews are offered based on availability of alumni. So it doesn’t hurt if you didn’t get one.

@millalexander19 I am from Lahore. What about you? The lady who took my interview said there were others she interviewed as well. So are you from a small city or soemthing?

@stemp2 Yeah, those are totally random. I emailed them and then they said thanks for the email, it has been checked off.

@Extinguisher I am from islamabad and the funny thing is no one in my school applied to duke ed nor my friends from other schools in islamabad know anyone who applied to duke in their school…so I have no clue whatsoever who got an interview in islamabad. But i will stop freaking out right now caz i have a p3 midterm and i know nothinggg… :frowning:

@millalexander19 Please stop worrying. I am a current Duke freshman who applied ED 2019 and didn’t get an interview. It will be okay.

PSA to everyone who applied ED: No matter what happens, it will be okay. You will end up somewhere great. Where you go to school does not make or break you. Keep in mind that there are drawbacks to every school, including Duke. Good luck to you all in these coming weeks!

Haha my midterms are about to start as well. Best of luck yaar. Khair p3 isn’t that hard, if you’ve practiced enough past papers so I’m sure it’ll go good. So yeah, really, stop worrying about the interview thing. It is just kind of an extra recommendation which isn’t even needed. Which school are you from in Islamabad?

@Extinguisher Westminster. You?

@millalexander19 I’m from LGS. How went your exam?

One word: DISASTER. Oh, lgs jt?

It can’t be that bad. And nope, lgs defence.

Yeah, well come to think of it, it wasnt that bad…I am just a tad dramatic about exams…everyone keeps saying mids are super important so yeah, I freak out occasionally

Btw, what made you apply to duke ed?

Yeah I can tell about the freaking out. Haha. You did the same with the interview thing. And well, I had to apply somewhere ED and I had finally come down to Cornell, Dartmouth and Duke, after discussions with my school counselor. Now I wanted to major in engineering but Dartmouth barely had that, so that was gone. And then almost everyone preferred Duke over Cornell and I finally chose it because I wanted to do something in aerospace engineering and most schools have nothing to do with this major but Duke offers a certificate or soemthing for this so I went on with it. Also, I felt like I could do a good job with Duke’s essay. What about you?

Aerospace engineering sounds high class. Its a good thing that you didn’t apply ed to cornell engineering caz they are super stingy. And same here, I was stuck between duke and dartmouth. But duke had basketball and a strong global health department so I went with duke.

I remember the anxiety that y’all are feeling right now. You can do it guys! My advice is to hope for the best but prepare for the worst – I didn’t get my ED choice last year, but wouldn’t even for a second consider transferring if given the opportunity today because I love it here!

If you have any questions, please feel free to message me.

Best wishes from a current (Pratt) freshman.

I’m hoping they notify us soon about the release of decisions and/or how many applicants there were/selected

Is anyone else having a panic attack? I really hope we get our decisions early

@viphan would you mind taking a look at my essay and give me an opinion on what you might think about it?

It’s only two weeks max now guys. My S is also wound tight as a top right now. I feel for you all! Try to relax and enjoy the process!!

Hey I’m African-American and from Louisiana. My high school had the highest average act for a public school in our state and it was only a 21. Mine is a 32 which I know is a little low for Duke, but I have alot of extra curriculars, a 4.4 gpa, 9 ap’s with A’s in all of them, and a letter from a college professor who taught me english. will they factor in my region and race in the process of early admission?
