omg that’s both cool and bad (for that it’s scary). Thanks it’s so nice!! @kittykatty119
@Lift35 I’d assume fewer applications would mean a higher acceptance rate. Duke may or may not want to increase the percent of ED applications to increase their yield. I think they might do this because last year, they accepted 48% of their class ED and they had a record yield, though it is still on the lower end of the top schools. So they might want to accept a higher percent ED again this year so they can again boost their yield. But this is all speculation.
Where did you guys hear about the RD deadline?
@NerdyChica Importan found out about it, but if you look at the Duke Deadlines page, it says the RD deadline is January 3, when previously it was January 1. So it has been extended 2 days.
Oddly enough I’m hoping being first generation helped me. I don’t know how many first generation and low income applicants apply ED to duke but I think only 10% of all accepted overall are first generation.
Lift, I do think it is a hook/boost! ;).
Does anyone know how many immigrants apply to duke because I’m a first generation immigrant.
I believe an admissions officer stated in an article last year that they were planning to stick to filling around the same % of class with ED as they did last year. But, it has increased every recent year. The other thing to keep in mind is that Duke knows how many students have Duke listed rd on their common app dashboard. It’s possible that if one pool, is larger or smaller than usual, the other pool could make up for it. The Rhodes scholars weren’t announced until after ED apps were due so it would only affect the rd pool. I also believe I read somewhere that many top schools extended their deadlines last year, and that it may be a new trend among elite schools to extend their deadline EVERY year just to fork in a few extra applications. I suppose there are too many factors to speculate on the number of applications. As long as it stays around the 25% rate I would be satisfied.
Anyone else an international living in the US? Idk how this would affect my chances.
y’all talking about 2200 SAT like it’s low lol
@Lift35 @Ergo20 I’m in the same boat as you guys because I wanted to send my 780 770 subject tests but then I had to send my 2180 SAT. I got a 36 ACT and my counselor thought they’d give more credence to the ACT, though, so that’s why I did it
@pearmetty HAHA :))
@cslaymaker10 you should’ve sent it! That’s in no way a bad SAT score depending on your subscores. Worst case scenario they would have held your ACT with more weight and more or less ignored the SAT.
@Mango920452 How long have you been in the US
@kittykatty119 14 years, but no permanent residency or citizenship. Are you international as well?
@Mango920452 Yeah I’ve lived here for 12 years but I got citizenship earlier this year
@cslaymaker10 I just sent in everything because my school puts everything on my transcript anyways, so they would have seen it regardless. Congrats on your ACT score though, that is an extreme plus.
@kittykatty119 Congrats! Wish I could get citizenship and not have to worry about the whole “how does a college view my application” ordeal. From what I understand, I’ll be compared with other US applicants, and since I didn’t apply for aid, I won’t be put in a separate pool, but I’m not completely certain about this.
Good luck to everyone on Duke! I have a very good friend who applied here ED, and I’ve heard amazing things about the school. I hope everything works out for all of you, regardless of where you get in!
Sincerely,
A Dartmouth ED Applicant
How much will being President of my school add to my application?
@Mango920452 thanks a ton haha
