Duke ED Class of 2020 Applicants Discussion Thread

@Mango920452 Oh okay thanks for the link!

@Mango920452 they weren’t self reported because I hadn’t taken them yet. But I think/hope that the only scores they look at are official* ones they receive Not self reported ones. It wouldn’t hurt if they saw my 2200 SAT on the common app but I doubt they’ll consider it at all since it’s not an official score, which if it’s true, then I have nothing to worry about because then I never had to send any subject tests

I never mentioned that I am a first generation immigrant on my application. Should I have and will they know without me telling them? Does it really help my application?

No, not really. Immigrants ener the US via first class sometimes:). If your parents did not go to college, they see that in the common app though, and that could help.

In the 2019 Duke ED results thread a female Asian applicant was accepted and in her post next to hook she said “Ethnicity, but Duke is generally nice about this”. Can anyone clarify what that probably means. I took it as her saying Duke isn’t as heavy on race as other schools but I don’t know to what extent that would be true

First generation immigrant status is noted through what you said for country of birth, but as @HRSMom said, idk if it gives a big boost. If it does that’s good for me as well.

How do you know if you got a FA counselor assigned to you? I sent some of my FA forms a little late. I hope it doesn’t mean anything.

@Brownster98 it does not matter. Duke is needs blind and thus it does not matter if your forms are in or not

thanks for the confirmation @john474747. The anxiety is growing.

~4.25 days now. I heard that Duke extended its regular decision deadline. Could this, along with the fact that they didn’t release application numbers in November like last year, possibly be an indication that applications are down this year?

@ImporTan I don’t think so

@ImporTan I thought they’d increase this year, since Duke got publicity for winning the NCAA D1 Basketball Championship.

(Deleted question) Alright, I figured it out myself. Thanks

I mean I figured they would increase too with the new Union and USNWR ranking. I doubt that many qualified students would apply ED just based on them winning the NCAA championship, especially since Duke is already known for basketball. I’m not expecting a decrease, rather my optimistic side is hoping so…

Forget the NCAA championship. Duke was also in the news for a Nobel Prize and students who received Rhodes Scholarships. I wouldn’t read into the timing of their announcements. They’re seldom very consistent.

Someone should make a countdown timer haha

[Deleted question] answered it myself.

@ImporTan I hope so as well. Who knows, maybe it has decreased. I think you have a point by mentioning how they extended their deadlines and how they have not mentioned it yet. If they did indeed have a huge increase, I think they would have wanted to show it like Penn or Princeton.

Plus, the new Union building is still under construction, and the Chapel is going restoration, so that might have had an effect.

Regardless, I still LOVE Duke. It would be awesome to get in and go there.

The number of ED applications decreased the previous year and the number of accepted ED applicants rose, granted I do not know for what reasons. A lower applicant pool could only be beneficial for ED applicants I would think. How much of the entire accepted pool do you guys think will be early decision students. It was around 48% last year and has only been increasing in past years. Could it hit 50% this time around? Duke’s USNWR ranking hasn’t changed since last year and I would assume would want to still increase their yield. @ImporTan @Mango920452

I made a countdown timer
