Duke ED Class of 2020 Applicants Discussion Thread

For those who’ve had interviews, how did you know who your interviewer was on the day of? I just realized that my interview is in a few days at a cafe and I have no idea what my interviewer looks like.

when you look at the number of views this thread has and realize you are probably responsible for 1000 of them

@anxiousseniors You can google their name. They’re probably on LinkedIn or a similar professional site. If not, then I’m sure they’ll wear something that is identifiable as Duke (like a Duke hat or Duke shirt)

@Mango920452 They take your context into consideration. Note: if there is more than 1 applicant to Duke ED from your school chances are they’ll look at your applications close to one another or at the same time to compare you within the context of your school

Hallo peeps. How are you all doing? Well, I’m new to this thread and I’m curious. Are all of you nervous? I haven’t been nervous at all since I have submitted the application. I wonder why that’s so. And for those who have given the interviews, how did it go? I have my interview this Saturday and although I am not freaking out, I wonder if the interview only adds depth to our application or is also a part of ‘whether to admit or not’. Any ideas?

The additional rec isn’t due until the 20th it says in the email

I just had my interview. My interviewer was extremely friendly and laid back. We spent half the time talking about basketball, and I thought it went great. I wouldn’t be nervous at all and don’t bring a resume. I think it’s supposed to be just a friendly conversation to understand your character more.

@tomicbernard Hah thanks. Well seems good enough. They only want to know what we like best and that is the best thing. I’m glad yours went great.

Has anyone of you applied EA anywhere as well?

I applied EA to Chicago and was just accepted EA to Tulane.

@anxiousenior1 That’s great. I applied EA to MIT. Let’s see how that goes. I had Chicago in mind but I guess I needed time to craft the excellent supplemental essays that Chicago requires. And I had my SAT coming up in November so I chose not to. As for Tulane, I still have three days to apply. Should I?

@Extinguisher thanks! I don’t see why you wouldn’t want to, the application is free. I’d go for it! All the essays are pretty much optional if I remember correctly. And it’s a pretty decent school, ranked in the top 50. I’m just keeping it in my back pocket in case I don’t get anywhere haha.

@anxiousenior1 Top 50? Cool. How did I not know that? Heh. I’ll apply to Tulane then. Even if essays are optional, I usually tend to write them. It’s fun. You’re welcome. So you chose Duke as your first choice after much consideration? Oh and have you applied to the Engineering school or the Sciences one?

I chose Duke as my first choice after looking at JHU, Emory, and Tufts. Decided that Duke was a reach but if I could go anywhere, I’d choose Duke. The added advantage of ED was attractive too in my decision. I’m applying to Trinity as a Global Health major.

@Lift35 that’s a lot more comforting! I think I’m the only one applying ED from my school. We’ve had one other person go to Duke but that was 4 years ago. So I’m hoping for the best!

@Extinguisher I applied to Chicago as well. I also applied to Colorado College and the College of Wooster.

I have to leave the country for a family emergency. I haven’t been contacted for an interview yet, but I hope this doesn’t affect my chances. Admissions told me that these things happen, and it won’t affect my admission chances, (if I’m contacted for an interview while I’m gone and can’t go). They said to leave a voicemail explaining the situation. I’m still really nervous though, I hope I don’t seem rude to the interviewer (if I’m contacted for one while I’m gone) :-SS

@Mango920452 oh no! I hope everything will be ok!

@Shulav That’s great. I really hope we all get into the universities we want to.

@Mango920452 I don’t think you need to be worried. Because as long as admissions are concerned, an interview is only a very small percentage of your application. So your application is already complete without it. And as for the seeming rude thing, I am sure the interviewer will understand the situation. I’ve found interviewers to be mostly understanding and easygoing.
