Duke LAX case discussion continued.....;)

Hooray!!!

the charges have been dropped … here is the latest from CNN

http://www.cnn.com/2007/LAW/04/11/duke.lacrosse/index.html</a></p>

I just watched the entire news conference. Just wow…I am so glad that the way the attorney general came across left no question of the innocence of these young men and that the case was mishandled in several different ways and in a rush to indict. I am also glad to hear that he proposed some changes to help avoid this type of thing…some oversight of district attorneys that are “rogue” and so forth.

He also said there would be no prosecution of the accusing witness and that seems to have to do with her “troubling” history or personal issues that played a part in her making the accusations. Those were not specified as some were parts of sealed documents (likely to do with her past or mental “issues”).

Hopefully, lessons have been learned to prevent such processes like this in the future. This was prosecuted in an “unchecked” manner and allowed anyone to make an accusation and be believed and to indict innocent people in a rush and in ways that were not ethical.

HOORAY!!! What we’ve been saying all along!!!

Make note that he says INNOCENT - not that there isn’t enough evidence to proceed!!!

It’s about TIME!!! :D

I got the impression that the reason they aren’t going to press charges against the accuser is because she is mentally unstable. He kept saying that she believes all of the contridictory stories she has been saying, but that there was NO evidence or testimony to back up her allegations, and that not only was the evidence contradictory to her stories, but that she contradicted herself numerous times.

She is a sad case…

The attorney general was very impressive–much more forthright than I expected.

For those who find that they still can’t get enough of this story, the local newspaper is already busy promoting an upcoming “five-part series”:

http://www.newsobserver.com/</a></p>

I also was very impressed by the attorney general and thankfully it was full vindication, not simply “no evidence.” He also handled questions very well and in a very ethical manner. And yes, he inferred about the accuser while be respectful to not reveal specifics about her “mental stability.”

Mattmom and Soozievt I completely agree - impressed with the AG - nice job of explaining all the pieces.

:)  INNOCENT !!!  :)

Thank goodness… How do they start to get their lives back?

I’m hoping it turns out that two of them are off to wonderful colleges and new teams in the fall, and that David Evans has a new awesome job offer.

It was disappointing to hear no charges against the accuser. If she’s mentally unbalanced, well, her attorney could theoretically just plead accordingly, right? But on the other hand, perhaps the sane, rational NC AG doesn’t want to repeat the same lack of professionalism…

It was really chilling to hear that she STILL wanted to move forward, and that the investigators felt that she really, truly did believe what she was saying.

Well, you will always get false accusers (that is why there are trials to figure out innocence and guilt) but in THIS case, the whole thing took off because of how the case was handled after the false accusation was made. The way it was handled, and in many various facets, was an injustice. It should never have gone this far.

You’re right. It was interesting to hear the words “rogue prosecutor” used, live, in a press conference, by another prosecutor. That has to be just extraordinary…

This is so important that I have to re-post! I wish we could go back 10,000 plus posts (most of which were deleted). How many posters rushed to judgement…

"The Duke lacrosse case is over. In a stunning statement, North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper announced today he will not file any charges against the three Duke lacrosse players who were accused of rape.

But he went further than that. He specifically stated that he believes the players are innocent – not just that there isn’t enough evidence to press charges – and that he believes district attorney Mike Nifong was reckless in his actions."

I still think that the false accuser should be punished. If she is as psychotic as it seems, she will probably do this again. She should be institutionalized. Remember that this is not the first time she has falsely accused. I feel very sorry for her next victims!!

Older, wiser, the world is again the LAX 3’s oyster. Careers in politics if they’d like.

Nifong retires - law career is over.

Gottlieb - gets away scott free? Is given a beat that does not include Duke.

Duke settles out of court for some nominal amount.

Durham settles for enough to pay the families legal expenses. Nifong’s share of the settlement is paid for by the good people of Durham.

The AV briefly commands a premium stripping wage.

Stripper 2 - wins nuisance law suit money from the LAX 3?

The coach gets a Div I team again with a salary commensurate with what he had at Duke.

Brodhead retires.

The Duke 88 remain confident in their arrogance.

It was so fantastic to have the AG stand there and declare Dave, Reade and Collin INNOCENT!! That was huge!! I’m so happy that this day has finally arrived, and that the AG had the courage to make such demostrative statements about Nifong!! I am anxious to see him disbarred, and hope that there will be criminal charges brought against him.

I think many of us, long ago, agreed that this accuser (who has been identified by Fox, among others) had serious problems that jail time might not help. She needs to be in a mental facility, and someone else needs to have custody of her children.

^ I agree. She should also STOP having b@st@rd children !

The DA also made it quite clear that this accuser is not an “AV”, FINALLY!

She is a psychotic false accuser, NOT a victim of anything. He specifically stated that the evidence proves she is a liar. (even if she really “believes” she is telling the truth. )

1sokkermom:

I thought that the invective “■■■■■■■ children” had disappeared at the turn of the century - the 19th century, that is. I guess not. This woman’s children are not “bastards.” They are children - period.

Your comment that “the evidence proves she is a liar” even if she “really ‘believes’ she is telling the truth” makes no sense at all.

1sokkermom - with all due respect - could you show a little humanity toward the accuser? The same kind of humanity you wanted for the accused?
