Duke University Early Decision for Fall 2024 Admissions

I really have a question bothering me …I am an international student applying but I was able to submit all my documents except for my high school transcript results… will it be if much trouble to me…I really need help

Mine have also disappear…how long does it take for it to be released

I agree, this will be a very tough year for Duke ED. it will almost certainly be between 800&855 accepted. The past 3 years were all in that range, or basically just under half the targeted class. Last year the 800 was the lowest number yet. In those same years, the deferral group has been approximately the same size as the admit group, so it truly is the “next group” who has a chance, and typically around 10% of them are admitted in RD. At least they limit deferrals to a reasonable number, letting the rest have the ability to move on from Duke and get excited about other schools. D21 was defer then admit in RD for the class of 2025, so do not lose hope if any of yours are in that scenario. Her good friend she met as a freshman was deferred then WL then admitted! Both thriving/have made dean’s list/etc. It can be a long road for some; good luck to this year’s group!

Definitely discouraging to see these numbers, but hoping for the best! We’ll find out soon enough anyway.

I wonder whether the new “free tuition if your family income is <150K” (for NC/SC residents) is driving up the early decision applications. I’d think so.

Maybe we were randomly asked for them. You did submit you CSS, right? also how was your interview?

It does not mean anything related to admission, if that is what you are asking. You can scroll through previous years and see folks rejected , deferred, and admitted who had IDOC requests.

This is gonna be a tough year. Anyone think that given the fact they usually take between 800-850 ED (800 last year) they could maybe pull up to high 800s-900? This is a ridiculous jump in terms of the number of ED applications submitted. I really dont see them admitting just 800 or even low 800s. Thoughts?

It probably depends on the ED pool characteristics. I highly doubt they would go above 850-860 because they like ED folks to be just under half the class, and most classes are low 1700s. They always can defer more if it really is a more qualified than typical ED pool(in addition to larger).

By any chance do you know what the numbers are for Pratt ED? They consider Trinity and Pratt students separately, I think, but I’ve heard that there are more admitted to Trinity of the overall 800ish.

I suppose. But I’ve seen this question elsewhere so I will pose it here as well. There was a ~30% increase in applications ED this year from last year alone. So besides the Carolina financial grant and the typical expected increase in applications… where is it coming from? Is it mostly kids that would normally shoot higher (Ivies, MIT, etc) but are lowering their expectations to bind to a slightly lower, but still elite institution? Or are are kids shooting their shots at a higher rate and then falling back on EA or ED2 options.

There’s really no way to know what the applicant pool looks like. Keep in mind they don’t always take only the kids with the top stats. Otherwise they wouldn’t be rejecting kids with 4.0s and 1600s every year. I think it’s going to be hard for everyone this year, but especially for applicants from the Carolinas, assuming they keep geographic distribution consistent.

Yes they definitely consider them completely separately. They haven’t released the breakdown of applicants into pratt vs trinity in years so I don’t know. Old chronicle articles list admitted numbers to pratt and trinity, but doesnt really tell you what the applicant pool is. The incoming class always has far more Trinity than Pratt as that is how it is designed due to program& class size goals etc.

Has anyone thought the increase in apps may possibly be due to the issues at some of the Ivys - perhaps some students who would NOT have applied to Duke ED decided last minute to apply Duke ED because of the stuff going on at other schools - just curious about what other people think…

I doubt it but it’s possible it may have had some impact. Things didn’t start taking a turn until mid to late October and throughout November. With an ED deadline of 11/1, it’s unlikely that many people changed their minds about where to ED within that timeframe. Plus, we would have seen a drop in applications at the Ivy’s and a similar increase at other T10-20 schools, which I don’t believe has happened.

This is exactly what happened at my HS!

I think a reason for the increase is Duke’s increase in US News rankings to # 7 putting it ahead of several Ivies. My neighbor whose daughter is at Duke can’t stop bragging about the ranking.

I dont think Duke is above any more ivies than it was last yr though so that doesn’t explain the jump.
