Hello,

Once again I am looking for camp information. My son has been accepted at EAMA and I am looking for anyone who may have attended the camp and would have any information about it above and beyond what is on the website!

Thanks in advance for your help! :)

It’s nickname is Counterpoint Bootcamp. You either love it or hate it.

Is your son in college or conservatory? Is he going for composition or chamber music or conducting?

I have never thought of EAMA as a camp. It is a well-respected, long-established program attended by many college and conservatory students. As you have read on the website, it is still inspired by the teaching methods of Nadia Boulanger, with an intense focus on counterpoint, harmony, analysis and musicianship. So less focus on producing work for composers, or even on performance, I gather- it’s about fine-tuning skills and craft.

It seems to be a rite of passage in some quarters (Oberlin, Harvard, that I know of). But others feel it is too conservative or constraining.

p.s. congratulations to him: I am assuming EAMA is pretty selective!

ps Students at EAMA do have work performed…
