Good luck!!!
@Bandmama2 You too! On the interview/scholarships for your D.
My son is not yet home from school to check (we’re on the west coast)… and he made sure that all his passwords were his own so his parents don’t check for him… Ha! Suspense is driving me crazy.
My son was accepted!
DS was accepted. Merit scholarship notifications will come later. Hard to get excited without knowing the cost.
@jdcollegedad Agreed! DD in but doesn’t mean much yet!
Congrats!!
Does the acceptance indicate when “later” is for scholarships?
@momcam Thanks. Financial aid with scholarships by the end of Feb.
Accepted but with no Merit or FA info we are still pretending he is not in. Will call them tomorrow to find out if Merit comes first; if we are given very little than they are not getting ahold of our FAFSA and CSS. Not ok with sending that stuff out to everyone!
Oh, c’mon, I think it was g
My D was accepted too and we’re with the rest of you in waiting for the financial info before getting too excited. Wanted to ask if anyone else’s acceptance mentioned the essay? My D’s letter referenced her essay which I thought was neat, but she said they probably do that for everyone. Cynical kid. ?
@Momtofourkids I agree with your philosophy. My oldest son was accepted to Holy Cross, which was his dream school. Unfortunately, the nrotc scholarship didn’t materialize, and we are full pay. With multiple kids, we dropped that one. For kids 2 and 3, I told them not to become too attached, because there are several colleges they could thrive at and that would be in our budget. That conversation has helped keep things in perspective.
@Emmycat, my D’s acceptance letter didn’t reference her essay but it did congratulate her on one of her leadership roles…so it was nice to see it personalized! We are also anxiously waiting to see what merit aid is offered.
@emmycat Reading your post I went back and re-read the letter. There was a PS that said something about her experience with community service. Was the personalized part for you guys in the PS???
@onemoremom12, yes it was in the PS. Also, I think Furman is the only college my D applied to that sent her a birthday card.
When my D was accepted, her PS at the bottom was about hoping she would bring her music and marching band experience to the Paladin Regiment Band. She also got a birthday and Christmas card from her admissions counselor. The biggest thing that made an impact for her was that everything they send to her uses her middle name, which is the name she prefers to go by vs all the others she looked at that just go by her given name.
Yes, my D’s comment about the essay was in the PS too. I think making those personal comments is a really nice touch!
My daughter was accepted as well. She also got a P.S. mentioning her volunteering at the zoo and yes, we thought the birthday and xmas cards were a nice touch.
My daughter is a Furman Scholar though she should get at least 20K in merit but of course we are hoping for more.
Last year my child was given Bell Tower info right away. So if this helps, his stats for the Bell Tower $25000
SAT 1470
4.43/4.0
He was not called to interview for larger scholarships.
Secondhand info- Music majors can get great scholarship $ if there is a need in their area of expertise.
Obviously the same goes for ROTC, you are committing to serve, but great scholarship $.
My D just finished up her instrumental auditions and will return at the end of February to do her vocal auditions. She is double majoring in music and neuroscience. She was told scholarships for music could be awarded in varying amounts based on her audition and abilities. They didn’t say anything about it being only for areas where they have a need, but her instrument is one that is currently needed in the marching band so maybe that is why they didn’t mention that part.
