Early Action - Class of 2024 Full Discussion Thread

My daughter has not received a Hokie Focus invitation email yet and she was accepted. Has everyone else received one?

My son has not yet received an invitation email. He has also been accepted.

Not from Virginia, but I live close (NC). I have no idea if that would factor into decisions.

oh ok good! I know some students have said they received it, so glad to hear that not everyone has. Thanks!!

The email sent yesterday was a different program happening the same weekend for certain students.

Yes, it’s the Virginia Tech Gateway Program. Students in this program will join Hokie Focus on Sunday, April 5 and also meet Virginia Tech’s President. Perhaps the coordinators for Hokie Focus are delayed and the email is coming soon.

I received a copy of the Hokie Focus email invitation that was sent to my OSS son today at 12:16 pm for April 4th or 5th.

It also listed alternative dates for an admitted students information session and tour dates if you cannot make it.

Not accepted to HONORS
The 4 essays were pretty amazing.

She expects to withdraw soon as she’s expecting athletic recruitment likely letter soon from higher choice.

Hokie Focus email received today.

My daughter and I both got the Hokie Focus invitation today just after noon. It’s funny because she declined her admission to VT last Friday (1550 SAT/4.0 UW/13 APs/ multiple national awards, and no VT Honors College admission-- she already has offers she prefers).

Oh boy

Who did get into honors???

My daughter did get accepted honors (business Undecided as major). There are a lot of people on the results thread that said they got honors.

My son was accepted into Honors – (Econ in Coll of Sci). I think the honors college students are spread across all disciplines, otherwise it would heavily skew to engineering only from the stats I’ve seen.

My son was also accepted into the Honors College (Political Science major/College of Liberal Arts and Sciences). Pretty sure that diversity of enrollment is a major focus for that program and that term can be defined in any number of ways.

My daughter was also accepted to Honors College (Architecture major). Acceptance does not appear to be based on high stats. According to the VT website and the email my daughter received:

”The Honors College does not have minimum test scores. Instead, we look holistically at an applicant’s experiences and consider the quality of engagement, self-awareness and reflection on involvement, and authenticity.”

I just called the admissions office. Waitlisted students are not ranked. After may 1 they will be reviewing our applications. What the lady also said “the students that got waitlisted have a perfect application to get in, the only reason why they are waitlisted is because there are not enough spots”. Basically, everything I knew before.

Thats why I never understand need to call admissions except to make yourself feel better I assume. I wouldn’t expect them to say more then the canned response above.

I called them regarding a different question(if I will be accepted can I live off campus), but the lady was so helpful, so I asked her a few more questions. Like how does waitlist work, If I can accept other schools offers and etc. I moved to US last school year from Russia, I am not familiar with this school system. So I feel like if anyone has any question, just call and ask, there is nothing bad in it. Cause you can get new information for yourself that you did not know before.

I assume she said freshman must live on campus this coming fall.
