Early Action!

So apparently someone at my school called admissions and they said that letters will go out on the 28th? Friday would make more sense, but I guess we’ll see.

Nice post WC2013!

I just called, and the lady said next week. Is it possible it could be before then? Has this happened in the past or what? She said the letters and online decisions are mailed and poated on the same day. Does this seriously mean next week?

MarcoP, My son is also in state and right in the middle of the application pool. He too only applied to a few schools. He got in NC State which is where he will definitely go if he doesn’t get in UNC. Reading some of last years’ posts are really scary because some very talented students were denied to UNC. I’m not really sure how UNC decides on which students to accept. This is so crazy!

It seems the crazy rejections come from OOS. from last years posts, under 2150 on sat’s seems to be the cut off.

It’s not necessarily SAT score. My suite mate got an SAT score in the 1900s and she was OOS and got in.

Do you think certain majors make admission more difficult? Thus, someone majoring in Business, is it easier to get in versus a Chemistry major? Wonder whether the SAT/ACT and GPS cut-offs are different? What are yoour thoughts? I know at certain schools the major you list impacts the admission decision.

Tabbay, My son applied to UNC and App St. and got into App State and is hoping to be selected for the Honors program. He will finish his application to NCST over the weekend and submit it if he gets bad or no news.

Hard to know what makes or breaks an application but the UNC readers told us on the tour that the essays and demonstration of leadership are tie breakers. His biggest concern his competition from within his own High School as Naviance informs us that UNC only takes a limited number of students from his school each year.

Good luck!

Agreed there are some holistic admissions. just an on average observation.

Nothing in the mail today.

Could someone chance me? I’ve been following this thread for several days now but this is my first post on CC. Now that decisions could be out anytime, I’m really starting to freak out.

In-state female
2090 SATs

Decent ECs (Governor’s School, work part time, ect.)
Creative essay

Thanks!

Kyky. You have very similar stats to my son inc. Governors school. I think you are both IN!

I think you’re fine^^^

MarcoP, Good luck to you too! App State is a great school. I don’t know anyone that goes there that doesn’t love it. I hadn’t heard about UNC limiting students from a particular school. We’re from Wake County and have heard that they limit students from Wake County. Fingers crossed!!

I don’t think they’ll be loading decisions during the census. Last year the decisions were released on the 19th - but the system was shut down on the 24th for the census. So, even though they usually post the “how to find your decision” on the blog the day before - it’s looking more like we won’t hear anything until next week.

I can not imagine why they are dragging this whole thing out. I have to say, this type of disregard for our angst is not exactly endearing the school to me. Makes me wonder how they will treat me once I’m committed as a student? Some of the other schools on my list, which are very competitive schools, seemed much more open and honest about their admissions proccedures, are starting to look a lot better to me! Of course, I’d still love to get in, but the bloom is coming off the rose a bit.

This is cray-cray!

Agree w everything you wrote, WC2013

Definitely won’t be today. I called to update something in my application and they said the commity had time to review it for EA, without having to move me to the regular decision pool.

Sammvp1 - were you RD or EA?

I’m EA. And they are still reviewing something new for me now. The only thing I can think that would support it coming out now, would be that I was already accepted and the new information can neither help nor hurt me. Otherwise, they truly are still reviewing decisions.

KYKY
I also once heard that getting into NC Governors school is a one way ticket to get into any State school in NC.
