Early Action!

“I also once heard that getting into NC Governors school is a one way ticket to get into any State school in NC.”

Not always the case. Have a friend who went to NC Governors School, good SAT scores, good essays and good grades (maybe not stellar)… He is very happy at NC State…

All that being said, kyky8651, based on what you provided, you look like a strong fit for UNC.

Honestly if they haven’t even finished reviewing EA decisions by now they have better have a good reason why they have been futzing around for three months…

does anyone know anything about asking UNC to move your Early Action application over to consideration for regular decision instead? I would like my midyear report to be considered.

^^Is futzing a technical term?? lol…almost spit out my coffee…

:) If they are still reading EA, they are going to be hating life trying to get through the RD apps.

It’s a nicer version of a more explicit word.

Been reading this thread every day since the beginning but have yet to comment! Thought I should just say hi and good luck to everyone! You guys all keep my entertained as we all wait for our decisions! May the odds be ever in your favor ;)

^ don’t think they do that.

Honestly they need to hire more admissions staff or something if they are still seriously reviewing EA applications…that is completely ridiculous. I agree that its making me question how they treat their students if they can’t even give everyone a concrete date. I mean how hard can it be? They expect their applicants to be of the highest caliber, and then do a subpar job of releasing timely decisions… I love the school and would love to get in but come on. I’m ready to be done with this college application process and figure out next year.

There’s been talk about whether or not the outage from 5 to 11 tonight will affect the admissions site. The outage will affect “campus solutions”. If you follow the “more information” link to campus solutions, undergrad admissions seems to be part of it. So, looks like checking admission status won’t be available. Hopefully those folks betting on tomorrow are right. Frankly, this family is happy to take a break from checking the status!!

Matugi: roger that; just thought it was funny to see it on CC…

The lack of a concrete date has also caused me to spend more money by applying to other colleges for security that I otherwise wouldn’t have applied to.

Um…they said they would post the results before the end of January. It’s not the end of January, yet. What have they done wrong? Try decaf and chill out. You want good decisions, not fast decisions.

Matugi I did that too, especially since if I had just waited for decisions to come out and found out that I didn’t get in, most deadlines would have already passed. It has just made me extremely nervous

As much as I’ve wanted it to come out since a few weeks ago/ have been banking on it coming out since a few weeks ago, UNC did give a definite date. They said by January 30th. It’s not technically that date yet so they are within their limits. My brother applied for admission (UNC Class of 2014) and his decision was released on January 31st, so it is in the realm of possibility that they could not release it until the last day. I hope and pray that it is Friday though.

@Aardvark It’s about precedence: they released them earlier last year, and almost every other major college has released theirs already, so the expectation is that UNC would have released theirs already as well. Either release them every year around the 15th or never release them until after the 25th. Don’t jump around because it creates expectations for next year’s applicants.

DD was ready to submit a few safety apps but then UVA announced their EA offers early and it saved us some money so I know exactly what a few of you are talking about :frowning: Good luck, everyone!

It’s the fact that they won’t even say “yes we are posting them on January 31st.” That wouldn’t bother me as much. They won’t specify and it creates a lot more anxiety as a result. Plus even the Ivies have already gotten decisions out. UVA got theirs out too. It’s just weird that it takes them so much longer…

^That’s true, too. It’s the ambiguity of the “by the 30th” that’s the problem. It could be any number of days, and as such people will speculate and worry EVERY SINGLE DAY, just as we have been.

I know this is stressful but so many of us are taking this WAY too personally. The school is not “doing anything” to the EA applicants. The EA date has been on or before 1/30 for months, just like past years. EA applicant volume has exploded since UNC started taking the common app and unlike Duke or Michigan the Ivies or any other school referenced in the thread that some of you feel are “treating us better”, UNC has live in a world where OOS attendees are capped, so their success rate is highly legislated and if they miss and accept the wrong instate or OOS kids they have a much larger problem than making the impatient wait a few days longer. That’s why they are still reviewing applications, so they get it right. because the margin of error is so slim, especially for the OOS apps.

Unless the waiting goes past the stated date of 1/30 the school has “done” nothing to us except live within its established dates. Doesn’t matter what other schools do or don’t do, and it’s hardly personal or a reflection of “how they will treat me” once I’ve been accepted. This will be ver in a week at most so chill out.
