Early Decision II - Class of 2014

Aw, paintmepurple, I’m sorry!
I’m sure that you will get into a school that you will fall in love with!

Question… does anyone know if the Financial Aid stuff on the SIMON website is accurate?
I can hardly get my head wrapped around any of the information…
Does the actual FA stuff come with the letter in the mail?

Accepted!!
To Trinity College. :D

Accepted!!! I couldn’t even believe it. This is seriously the school of my dreams and i didn’t let myself think for a second that they’d ever want me, but it turns out THEY DO.

THANK THE GODS

@Pizzazz: I dunno if you remember me from forever ago on a different thread about Wes, but CONGRATZ!! Glad we both made it ^_^

rejected.

congrats.

I’m so, so sorry, PMP. I can imagine how disappointed you are.

If it makes you feel any better, the comments that others have made about the lack of sensitivity in letters from Wes may be indicative of the overall attitude of the school. Certainly the FA office has not been nice to us at all. My daughter applied ED and is committed, but you have the opportunity to be accepted by other very good schools which will most likely be nicer and more generous than stingy Wesleyan is. You will end up happy at a school that wants YOU! And I hope that school, whatever it is, gives you a nice financial package.

Please let us know where you end up. Good luck!

Best wishes to all of you.

@soccermom: I’m sorry, i don’t mean to be rude, but Wesleyan is actually one of the most generous schools around. For starters, they have a completely need blind policy and promise to meet 100% of DEMONSTRATED need. For another thing, they awarded 35 full QuestBridge scholarships this year. I think the only other school that came EVEN CLOSE to that number was Stanford, with 17 kids, and a MUCH lager endowment.

PMP, I know you feel down now, but you’ll see when you start getting letters from the other schools you applied to that this is not as big a deal in the long run. If you keep working hard, I’m sure you’ll get where you want to go. And if you still have your heart set on Wes in two years, you an always transfer.

Also, i know how you feel because when my sister was applying to college, she got rejected by every single one of her safety schools and her match schools before she received an acceptance letter from her reach. Keep your chin up and things will work out for you!

Julia-

Well yeah, but when they say “demonstrated” they mean what they perceive your need to be, which is usually less than you’d want. Not ragging on Wes, just saying that their FA policies leave something to be desired when compared to say, Grinnell’s (since they have a weirdly huge endowment).

@Oldgold: Well i wasn’t going for a debate on this, but i come from a single parent home and my mom doesn’t exactly make enough to support 3 kids, 2 in college. And my FA package kicks ass. I mean coming from someone who will receive awesome aid if i attend Wes and who knows many people already there receiving that aid and then some, i feel qualified to defend their level of generosity. Wesleyan does many many things with their unusually low endowment (and i say that in comparison to other LACs).

As for the FA policies of other schools, i can’t say much. If someone wants FA like they have at Grinnell, then they better be praying they get in!

(for some reason this didn’t post the other night, so i’m just gonna copy/paste)

oh my god oh my god i got in!!! i am so so relieved!!! I am in london on a class trip so I didn’t check until I could use the Internet. I just about screamed and probably woke up the whole hotel when I found out. I ran up and down the stairs so many times and could not contain my excitement. one of my best friends is also going there so we just jumped up for like five minutes. man this just made my decade!!!

to those who were rejected, wes is missing out, and you guys will end up at amazing schools. to those who were deferred, i wish you all the best of luck in april! to those who were accepted, congratulations and i can’t wait to see you all in september!!! wes, baby!!!

man i am over the moon!!! it’s 2 am and i can’t sleep at all!!! i’m way too excited!!

Congrats azwethinkweiz! You sound like me two seconds after i read my letter XD
I screamed so loud in my house that my baby sister started crying hahaa

but does anyone know when RD decisions start coming in??

How did you find out about your decision??? I haven’t gotten an email…

Hey you guys,
I’m a current freshman here at Wes and I was in your position last year  I remember getting my acceptance a year ago yesterday and I just wanted to congratulate you ALL on applying to Wesleyan. This school is a perfect fit for some, and isn’t for others and keep in mind that Admissions knows that. If you are rejected, take it as a blessing. You would have been unhappy here otherwise. I was an ED applicant to Brown who felt the same way as you guys when I got rejected but I matriculated here, and there is nowhere else I would rather be! Wesleyan is like a little family and you’ll have a wonderful four years here!
If you guys have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask! Enjoy your remaining days of high school–you’ll miss it!-- and count the days down to fall!

-they sent an email to ED applicants with this link. Should work for you.

Julia-
Didn’t know that, that’s awesome that Wes is generous with the FA. I know a few people who aren’t hugely satisfied with it, but it sounds like they might be in the minority.

@norolimasfaloth- Thanks!! This is particularly why i love this school, everyone is incredibly nice. It’s almost too good to be true XD

Can’t wait for WesFest!

Man did anyone get that letter they just sent out? We don’t hear from them again until like May XD bummerr

I actually want that fluff mail now that I’m in lol

@Ju_liaa
I received that letter, too. Ahh, it was so great to read that first sentence! (“We are delighted to acknowledge your admission deposit as confirmation of your enrollment at Wesleyan.”) That is probably one of the best sentences I’ve ever read!

And I feel your pain about not hearing from them until May. I cannot wait to get all of the housing/orientation information in the mail!

WESLEYAN '14!

I’m the class of ‘10 and I have to say that my aid package was comparable with all the other schools across the board. From state schools to other liberal art schools. Actually, wes’ ended up being my best offer.

With all the donations towards financial aid lately, I don’t think wes is being stingy. Wessoccermom, I don’t think you have grounds for comparison because you haven’t seen the offers from other schools.

It’s true that some schools are better than others, but you can always send the offer from a school that had a better package and send it to FA, they sometimes give you back a better offer.

Just my experience and $.02
