Early Write...

lol yea I didn’t receive it earlier, but just got it today…Westchester, NY…

for those interested, the beginning reads:

"Congratulations! I am very pleased to offer you admission to the Williams College Class of 2009.

Each year during February our admission committee identifies a number of candidates whose academic credentials are so strong that we are able to offer them early admission to Williams. This is no small accomplishment on your part, as our applicant pool this year is demonstrably the strongest and most diverse in the College’s history."

thanks for the info JC and congrats!! can you tell us the date of your EW letter and how was it sent–snailmail?

The date is just “March 2005,” and came via snailmail…big envelope with a folder inside, whose cover evokes a gleeful chuckle :-)

My S got one today. We are ecstatic!!!

nopoison: where are you located? Did your letter or envelope have a date?

Postmarked 3/9.
Regular mail. We are in Nassau County NY…the burbs.
Big white envelope with a big purple folder with a personal note.

Congratulations!

And if you don’t mind… what are your sons stats?

same thing for me today! so excited! postmarked march 8, i was looking for a small envelope…then after not finding one i look at the big envelopes, first was savannah college for arts (never heard of them) then some magazine for my sister, then behind it all a big white evelope with a folder opf williams info and an acceptance letter inside!

no one from my family is home or knows yet, so im celebrating with the dog
congrats to all early wirters and im sure all the ccers will get in RD!

Speed - Congratulations!!! Hope you will be at Williams next year.

only thing stopping that is my parents hesitation on the price, if that clears, im there

*C O NG R A T U L A T I O N S ** to all

Great Job Guys!!!

speeddemon608…My son celebrated with the dog as well. Called me on my cell and I almost got into an accident!

WOW, congrats everyone!!!

Did anyone on the west coast get one?

The west coast would not receive it yet as they sent it regular first class. That would reach there next week.

Are those who receive these “early write” letters on March 10 more favorably disposed towards Williams than if they had simply been admitted on April 1?

Williams says it hopes to obtain a 25% yield from recipients of the “early writes” - which means they would otherwise expect a smaller yield from this group - who presumably have - or will have - admission letters from other elites, including the Ivies.

Whoo hoo!! I got one today too. It’s interesting though that they might think I might be pulled toward an ivy though… my stats are nothing spectacular.
But still, YEA!!

Byerly…They must have some evidence of “early writes” being effective with a small percentage of applicants.
For us it will certainly take the edge off the next 2 weeks but we are still waiting for the rest of the decisions. What I fail to understand is how the schools expect you to decide in less than a month. My S was accepted to the University of St. Andrews in January and has until July to make up his mind.

Congrats everyone!!!

I told you that you would get in Speedemon. Letting Williams know that you are super-interested definitely works in your favor. You are just a perfect fit for Williams, and I am certain that the adcoms recognized that.

Though Williams may only mail a few hundred early writes this week, they send out acceptance letters as the decisions are made, so sit tight!!!

P.S. The number of Early Writes last year was roughly 250 (I counted the number of EWAD tags in the document that they send to alumni admissions volunteers). Altogether Williams accepted around 875 people RD.

speeddemon, congratulations! (and a second congrats to COols and Nopoisonivy’s son as well). This is such good news for you kids – and your parents.
