Easier now

Benley, I don’t know FA specifics now, but I’ll post them on your Master FA results thread when I do, 'kay?

CONGRATS! Nice to start the day off with good news and hopefully positive results will keep coming in.

to all the parent for kids who got in, as an applicant who has only gotten rejections today, congrats to all of you and i hope all of the kids realize what a gift an acceptance is.

Congrats! What an exciting time for your family!

*just got waitlisted at SPS? what’re the chances? is that just nicer way to reject? *

It really depends. First, you need to find which wait list you are on. Then you need to know where you stand if you are on the “reall wait list”. Then it’s a numbers game of the school’s yield vs. it’s expected yield. It’s also a function of the type of wait list a school uses. Some schools simply rank the top students on the wait list and work their way down it as spaces become available. Some don’t specifically rank the wait list but attempt to maintain the desired balance in the class. So, if the school’s top prospect for quarterback goes elsewhere and you’re #2 at that position, they would go to you. But if a math genius picks another school, they’ll opt for someone other than you from the wait list.

When the smoke clears in a few days, you can try calling the admissions office to find out this information. Often, they won’t give you clear answers but will speak in “code”. Fortunately, that “code” isn’t too difficult to interpret.

This is probably the approach of the boarding schools. They don’t rank WL’ed students. When a spot opens up, they go back to the WL pool and choose the best “fit”. Whether they maintain more than one waitlists is a mystery to me.

<<update:

In at Exeter
Out at SPS>>

Neato, congrats, big time. How does one hear from PEA ? I am not aware of a website with decisions. TIA.

Congrats Neato !

Prepclassof82, PEA sent out an email to parents early this morning (6:30 AM, I believe?) with the decision. :)

Congrats to your son Neato!

Yes they did- and the parent and child would know if the parent (me) hadn’t have mistakenly found it in the junk mail box and deleted it without seeing the results. Anybody- anyone- anywhere know the PEA link to find out the results???

son got into Andover, Groton. waitlist at SPS. looking forward to revisit days – relieved that process is coming to an end!

Nesto
he should enjoy M’Burg

Stbarths - We received an email from decisions@exeter.edu at 6:30am EST. No phone number was included. I saw nothing on Lion Links.

d accepted Miss Porters, NMH, Lawerenceville
w/l SPS
still waiting on mail, Deerfield, Loomis
?? Exeter-no email, maybe something went wrong

Congrats Alexz! Did you get FA info?

Re Exeter, an email was sent to my address this morning at 6:30 with Exeter Admissions Decision as the subject line. Check you junk mail folder if you didn’t get one.

I can’t wait to get all the FA info for each school laid out on the table. The only one I have in hand is Kent, but as long as Exeter hasn’t changed their FA initiative, we should be more than fine there.

neatoburrito

no FA information yet…for us that will make some clear decisions and my d understands this…she is just thrilled that she doesnt have to go back to where she is now…as she states the "real"count down begins…count down to "good-bye " to her current school.

As far as Exeter, I think them messing up again, long story, is just a sign that she doesnt belong there. We would push it but it was already at the bottom of her list. She felt it was 2 big, not enough community, and really treated her unfairly before. Its plus, it had Japanese, a language she is learning, independently of the Chinese she learns in her high school.

I will contact them win the crazy is over.

We are waiting in her top two DA and Loomis, then we start making plans :-)

I’m exhausted, luckily Alexz has slept every nite…I haven’t in about a month, this is life changing for my d and for us, the family.

Good luck on DA and Loomis. My wife went to Miss Porters (now stop laughing Neato!) and Lawrenceville is Great (yup, there too Neato). Alexz825Mom, sorry about the jokes with Neato but she understands. And Even sorrier about SPS :(. If it matters, I personally expect there is a better chance of the waitlist moving this year than last. So keep you spirits up and get some sleep.

Whatever happens, having the kids leave home is difficult. I REALLY didn’t want to lose my son, even though I knew it was the right thing for him. Change can be unpleasant. No matter how good the head knows it is, the heart feels it. All the best!

you’re implying that there are multiple wait lists at a school. each school? can you please explain what the different wait lists are? and why they are?

Lvillegrad: That question is for you.
