Easter Food or Activities or Whines

I no longer subscribe to the WaPo, but I always loved those Peeps displays.

My favorite thing as a kid was getting a panoramic sugar Easter egg every year (a family friend made them). When I took cake decorating classes when D was little, I learned to make them. Unfortunately, they were incredibly labor intensive, so I stopped making them. Maybe if I’m sitting around with nothing to do in my old age, I’ll make them again. They’re just so cool!

I just donated my kids’ Easter baskets when cleaning out the garage two weeks ago. Not sure I had it for daughter’s first Easter as she was in the hospital, but have pictures of it for the second Easter and many after that.

Oh,loved those! My mom used to buy them at the A & P. When I described those to some friends several years later, no one knew what I was talking about!

I also learned to make them, and agree it was time consuming (and they were fragile).

Random fun fact - my older son got to have two Easters before he had his first birthday. His birthday is Easter Sunday this year - April 5. The year he was born I think he was one week old on Easter, then Easter was earlier in March the next year. So two Easters in less than 365 days.

I loved the panoramic sugar eggs! And the WaPo peeps dioramas. At Target yesterday I was shocked to see the wide variety of Peeps available. Rice krispie treat, SunnyD, Dr. Pepper, chocolate dipped and all of the usual colored ones. They are definitely not on my list of Easter treats. One year when the kids were very young I made chocolate caramel eggs from Bon Appetit. They cost a fortune and were huge. That was a one and done.
I would love to have company but it will just be the two of us. I have a rack of pork in the freezer that needs to be cooked, so that’s the menu. Sunday will be cooler and rainy.

I love to make the butter lamb! When I was a kid, my mom always gave me the job of making it.

I’m a bit frustrated at the moment. Texted D a few days ago and asked what I can bring for Easter. She asked if we are doing brunch or dinner. IDK so I told her either was fine. I also offered my house. No response on that. This is unusual b/c she is so organized.

So I have no idea what I need to make, what time or where?

I need to call her this evening.

Sorry you have that uncertainty. Gotta admit that I was sometimes unsure about holiday schedules with my mother (especially if it was gonna be a holiday ski day, celebrating with her at my house before or after). And I am ever so thankful that she took it all in stride, allowed us plenty of flexibility. My MIL, who had died decades earlier, was just the opposite… which made me especially appreciative of my own mom.

I’m at BIL’s house. No firm plans or idea of what we are doing for Easter. We have D with us, and BIL says he has a friend who is in his 70s that may wish to join all of us too with whatever we all agree upon, which is fine with us. BIL will have met with his tax preparer on Saturday, so happily will have that behind him—we turned our docs & will need an extension because we are missing a K1 and also likely have other things missing.

Edit - wrong thread.

We’re having a brunch menu. It will be my younger D and husband, his parents, and a friend of mine whose kids are going to their in-laws’ houses. Going to send a basket of chocolate goodies to my older D, SIL, and GD.

My S is a night owl, and he doesn’t like to get up early on the weekend. He also doesn’t like brunch food (other than bacon). It limits some family things, but it works out okay because D’s in laws prefer brunch. So if she is doing double duty on a holiday, her family is happy to do brunch with SIL’s family & dinner with us. This weekend, S is going out of town to celebrate his & a friend’s birthday at the house of another friend … so we’re playing time by ear. I’m glad we’re a pretty flexible bunch - if we weren’t, it would be stressful.

I feel for you! Ham is my least favorite festive meal food.

Wish there was some way you could donate the leftovers folks don’t want to others in need, like homeless shelter. After my S attended a long ago grad party, we asked if homeless shelter wanted leftovers & they were thrilled to accept. We went & dropped it off.

Here is my whine: the weather. It is going to be quite cool in the morning, which is really messing me up on what I’d planned to wear.

I play in our church handbell choir. We are ringing at both services and are supposed to wear bright/spring colors that day. I had the perfect cap-sleeved dress in my closet. Won’t work with a 40° early morning temperature. I have no cardigan or jacket that looks right over it, as it has a peplum/fold/asymmetrical drape in the front, so I’m going to have to figure something else out to wear. It will be beautiful and 68° in the afternoon.

At least it isn’t supposed to rain.

I’m sending my niece home with most of the leftovers. She and her roommates will be happy to have “brinner” tomorrow.

I make way way too much food (it’s the Italian in me). I know it, but I don’t seem to be able to scale back even when I try.

No one has ever turned down the left overs so nothing usually goes to waste.
