Easter Food or Activities or Whines

We will be meeting BIL’s buddy for Easter at a little dim sum place near BIL’s house. They’re open and we liked the place last time we were there. For dinner we will get some veggies & have some lamb and veggies.

It was cool here too. I wore my capsleeved dress but should have added a silky shirt under… kept my lightweight down jack on for most of the service.

Nice to hear you do handbells. We used to have that at our church, always lovely.

It’s sunny and warmish and lovely in Foster City today. Yay!

Spontaneous change of plans here. Woke up to a beautiful sunny, 70+ degrees, rather than the rain predicted for this morning. S23 and I decided to take advantage of the gorgeous weather to go out for breakfast to a favorite local place with outdoor seating. Our timing was perfect as the families, and rain, started to arrive just as we finished up and headed home.

I sent this photo of my spicy Bloody Mary to Dh with the caption, “change of plans”

It’s now raining for the next several hours. Glad we got to enjoy the brief glimpse of nice weather while it lasted. S23 left a little while ago.

I ran into my neighbor earlier this week and had mentioned dh was out of town. She texted me last night and invited me over for dinner tonight with her and her husband so I’m going to join them.

Happy Easter to all who are celebrating today!

We celebrated Easter yesterday with DD and SIL..because SIL has to work today. We had turkey, scalloped potatoes and asparagus. DD brought a delicious fruit tart from Whole Foods.

I posted this elsewhere, but here is their shared Easter basket.

I’m making turkey soup today!

We did our extended family Easter yesterday and today the 2 out of town kids had brunch here at home and then left to head home. Mixed weather yesterday (warm, cloudy, THUNDERSTORMS, rain, breaks of rain! ) but we managed to get some time outside and it all worked out.

I made two new recipes that I will definitely make again. A feta/dill/edamame salad with a Dijon/maple vinaigrette and a NYT Chili Lime Roasted Chicken recipe that included a butter/Serrano/lime sauce over it when pulled out of the oven.

Spending the afternoon now resetting the house and currently taking a break and eating leftover egg salad!

Yup, egg salad & pimento cheese sandwiches. I skipped those when I went to the Masters! :slightly_smiling_face:

I love pimento sandwiches!

A big thank you to @kelsmom for recommending the Eggmazing egg decorator. It was a huge hit with my 18 month old grandson!

Reporting back from Easter at my mom’s. We had the ham, it was a different brand from what she usually gets and ended up weirdly dry. This was actually fine with me, as I find “juicy” ham to feel slimy. And she got fresh green beans instead of canned, so that made me happy. Everything else was the same as always / expected and fine. I arrived about an hour early so I could get all the appetizers set up , water pitchers filled, last minute things heated. I brought a strawberry shortcake, which seemed to go over well, and I dried and put away the things that were in the drying rack. So hopefully I took the load off her some.

Overall, not a bad day!

We had brunch at my sister’s. No ham this year - when I saw it was over $6/lb, I noped out. Breakfast casserole, bacon, funeral potatoes, deviled eggs, scones, muffins, mini cinnamon rolls. I made asparagus wrapped in prosciutto, roasted, and then topped with grated parm; a riff on Ina Garten’s recipe.

A beautiful day, lots of talk around the table. All-in-all, a very pleasant afternoon.

For the first time ever, no candy.

It’s usually what I ask for as my birthday cake, so I’m not usually the one making it. And my birthday is in early strawberry season. I was really skeptical when mom asked me to bring strawberry shortcake that I’d find any strawberries that were any good, but I seem ti have lucked out!

I bought a Honeybaked Ham smoked turkey breast. It was a HUGE hit! Dinner was simple, so we had lots of time to hang out together. S mentioned that he is considering moving to Utah, and he is beginning a careful investigation to see if it makes sense for him in the next year or two. While we would absolutely miss having him just over an hour away, it actually might be a good move for him. Time will tell, of course, but I’m glad he’s thinking carefully about what he really wants in life.
