eBay shoppers- package delivery issues

A gift from one of my kids had to be purchased on eBay as it is a prior year model. It showed as delivered by USPS, but was not received. There were tons of packages arriving this season so it after all the presents were wrapped, a search of the one and only room used to receive packages ensure. No present for me.
A claim was filed, but immediately closed as the USPS tracking shows delivered to the address on the box. In reading about this happening on assorted eBay forums, it appears that there are several things to occur:
We could be liars (Not)
Package could have been stolen from the box (waiting to hear from the seller if it was a box or soft bag so we know if it went in the actual box on the street or on the porch)
Package could have been mis-delivered to a neighbor (they all say no) or another house with the same street number (maybe they keep it, perhaps return to sender, fingers crossed)
We are trying to talk to the local USPS office to see if any tracking can be done.
The eBay guarantee does not work if it shows delivered :frowning:

Any other ideas on how to locate a mis-delivered package?

I would contact PayPal as well as the bank checking account/card associated with the purchase to say the item wasn’t delivered. The financial entity might be of help.

give the tracking number to the post office and see if they can GPS it. They might be able to tell you exactly where the package was scanned. If you live close to other houses, it won’t be accurate enough for an exact address, but could tell you if it was in the right area.

Could have been stolen off the porch. Happening a lot in our neighborhood

We had a purchase that showed it was on its way, with a delivery date set … suddenly, the date changed from 12/21 to 12/27 … then to “unknown.” We never did find out what happened, but Paypal refunded the money. We think it may have been damaged, lost or stolen in transit.

Bring the tracking number to your post office, as deesthings mentioned. There is not much they can do, but they should be informed of the missing package. I’m an eBay seller and it sounds like it was stolen from your box or step. Unfortunately, thefts pick up right before Christmas.

Absolutely have the local post office run a GPS report. I had a package that showed “delivered” and when they did the GPS, it had been delivered to a completely different street and house number. It took 3 weeks for them to get the resident at the other place to turn it over. It was unopened and I eventually got it. My local post office worked hard on it and was great.

I went to the local USPS this morning, I really had to push to have them take a report, no form, just scratch paper. They will talk to the carrier, but kept defaulting to the “must have been stolen” comments without acting like they care. I am hopeful for a mis delivery and am considering going to other nearby people with the same street number

eBay declined to pursue it since the tracking shows delivered, when you Google eBay forums, there is a lot of talk about this with a large portion being attributed to scammers, but also, to the poor service of USPS. Since it was a Saturday delivery, I wonder if it was a substitute carrier.

I ordered something from a vendor on the Walmart site. I realized after Xmas that I never got it. I checked the order which said it was delivered to my home, but the USPS tracking showed delivery to a different state in a different region of the country. I hope the recipients enjoyed their gift!
