I’m curious about the classes available to echols students - i know the echols student is free from general distribution requirements, and must fulfill requirements for his major, but beyond that, are there restrictions on the classes he can take? Can a first year echols student take classes available only to upper level students? Graduate classes? thanks for any input

As long as the student meets the prerequisite for the course, he/she can probably take it.

Some classes are restricted to instructor permission or something. I’m not sure exactly how that works, but I’ve heard it’s not too big an impediment for the Echols student if he or she just talks with the professor. I remember an amusing talk given by a physics major Echols student at DOTL last year where he was talking about how he was taking graduate level physics classes or something by his 1st or 2nd year (can’t remember). He indicated it wasn’t a lot of fun.
