<p>I believe, you have to be strong academically in order to be considered by the college you want to apply to.Everything from Standardized test scores to class ranking needs to be competitive enough.After that stage has been passed colleges go ahead in looking for special abilities that you exhibit ,those are what we call EC’s.So EC’s can act as a decider in most cases.</p>

<p>Academic performance is not a prerequisite. It acts nearly as a prerequisite for Indians, because as you said, it’s the only we do well. So, someone with good-extraordinary EC’s can pull the stick towards him/her.</p>
