ECU Honors College and EC Scholars Class of 2024

@Voiceonthecoast and @MBNC1755 - have either of you gotten a letter with more details on Scholars weekend since filling out the online form? We filled it out right away and haven’t heard anything.

@twokids2go My D20 actually called today to make sure they had her RSVP as she had filled it out right away and has heard nothing. More info is to come on the 11th but she just wanted to make sure everything went through as there was never a confirmation and the last day to RSVP is Friday.

That was my fear - that it didn’t go through. We canceled a trip to Orlando where she was supposed to compete so that she could attend. I’ll assume it went through. Thanks for responding. Now if we could just get her counselors to send her mid-year grades out I wouldn’t have anything else to worry about. LOL!

@twokids2go sorry I am just seeing this! We did get the emails late last week with all of the details! Looking forward to meeting you all there.

Good luck to all the EC Scholars finalists today! ?

A little information about Selection Sunday for those who are looking at this thread in anticipation of next year. The entire day was uplifting and finalists and parents were given a clear picture of how staff and students support each other. If your child, like mine, is into community building, creating a place where students lift each other up then take a serious look at becoming part of Pirate Nation.

We were told they had over 700 applicants for EC Scholars (and I believe over 1,200 for Honors College). They selected 50 Chancellor Fellows and will select 20 of those students to be an EC Scholar. I don’t envy their task as all the students I encountered were wonderfully well-spoken with outstanding accomplishments. My D20 felt it was an honor to be among them.

I hope this helps those thinking about ECU. Congrats everyone!

I want to second everything that @MBNC1755 said about EC Scholars. The students that both my D20 and I met this weekend were very bright, service-oriented, and friendly. East Carolina has done wonderful things with their Honors College (including those who are Chancellor and Centennial Fellows). I would not hesitate to recommend the program.

My D20 left there feeling honored to have been able to meet both the students and other candidates. However, she also was able to realize that ECU was not the school for her. She really wants a small liberal arts college, especially the non-lecture based classes that such an environment provides. Even though ECU would offer amazing opportunities, it just wasn’t a good fit.

@twokids2go It really is all about fit and it is always good to know when they figure out what they want their college journey to look like. I believe all of the finalists will thrive where ever they land. They were a very impressive bunch. Best to your D20!

Has anyone heard anything about EC Scholars selection?

No. Did they tell the kids when they might hear? I don’t remember anything being said to us during the parent session.

By the 28th via mail. I was just curious if anyone had heard. Our mail is always delayed.

No letter yet, but the friend my daughter made during finalist weekend got her offer today! She lives in Greenville and we are farther South so I would expect everyone else’s letters to arrive tomorrow via mail. Good luck to all of the students (and the families who are cheering for them)!

My daughter got wait-listed for honors and is trying to make a decision on where to go. They said in her letter that it could be at least April 15th before she finds out anything. Does anyone know if you did not get in the first time if everyone is put on wait-list or just a smaller list. Trying to find out what her chances are, if there are 500+ people on wait list or just like 30?

Did they send a note either way (if you did or did not not get an interview for early assurance to the medical school)? D20 got the EC Scholar award but no word on early assurance. That would definitely help her decision!

Interviews already happened for Early Assurance class of 2024. They were held on Monday, February 17th following Selection Sunday.

Has any of the alternates for the Scholars award been notified they have been accepted or declined yet?
I remember they said decisions will be made By April 15th. With this crazy virus, I wonder if it will be delayed. My best to all families during this difficult time! Thank you
